Two podcasts worth checking out: Bird Lives! Part 1 one of of two part NPR radio doc on Charlie Parker. Good clips from a radio interview he did. The First Ten Years: Elvis Costello The promos for another release of "My Aim Is True" are a bit annoying, but still worth a listen if you are a Costello fan.
Right then I'll definitely look into buying that sometime this month. Thanks. Raised by Wolves? That only has 5 songs..that's a little disappointing. Why wouldn't they just make more full lengths?
Voxtrot (as I understand it) is pretty much the brainchild of lead singer/guitarist/keyboard player Ramesh Srivastava. Ramesh was working on a master's or doctorate at the University of Edinburgh and Voxtrot was pretty much a studio only band. They released an EP or two and eventually wound up getting signed and now there's insano buzz about them. They have EPs with three songs on them making Raised By Wolves five songs seem like a lot.
Im mega hyped about Chicago House of Blues (a crap venue) on 9/14. Mahavishnu John McGlaughlin, in my opinion the finest guitar virtuoso, playing a combination Fusion and Indian show. I havent seen him since the Friday Night in San Francisco tour in 1979 (Which I found too whimsical) Cant wait.
This looks bitchin', gonna have to score me some tickets.... http://www.cnet.com/8301-13645_1-9770504-47.html
OK, I checked them out on myspace, and it seemed like paint-by-numbers garage rock. Have they been hyped by Pitchfork or something? Anyway, back to the more important point: Part Chimp.
I ended up not going despite the fact that the club where they playing is about 200 yards from my house. I was exhausted and broke and just couldn't bring myself to go. They're playing in Birmingham in about two weeks (at an infinitely superior venue) so I figured I'd go to that one since I could only afford one.
The Greatest Band in the World's new album comes out tomorrow and the video from their fist single is up on their website: http://cafetacuba.com.mx/
Stupid Internet Tricks: All The Beatles UK LP releases compressed at 800% into a one-hour MP3. Links to WFMU. Thanks to BoingBoing for the notice. I can't be arsed to listen to it myself, but it's ludicrous on a large enough scale to mention.
Wow this thread was all the way back on page 6. Here's a link for all of you guys who like live music: http://theultimatebootlegexperience.blogspot.com/
