I had no idea The Clientele had a new record coming out, but I just saw it on Pitchfork: "God Save the Clientele" (8.3, for what it's worth).
#1! Holy crap! However, I think there are sadder songs on Massachusetts. Regardless, they beat out Sinatra and Luther Vandrose. Nice.
Here's a cool site for all you Zappa aficionados. Click on the YouTube link to watch the master at work. http://zappafan.net/csrv/
In news that's half from the "God, what the hell have I done with my life" category, and half from the "That's cool, he was good people as long as I knew him" category, I just saw that a friend of mine from college is playing Leno tomorrow night, and his band is spending the summer on a massive multicontinental stadium tour.
Gentleman, start your printers. On Line Punk Zine Archive, including: Maximumrocknroll, Flipside, Suburban Voice.
Bob Nastanovich: Pavement-er, Silver Jew, thoroughbred racing blogger. He could be a little more diligent. Michael needs a new pair of shoes.
I've never really listened much to Rufus Wainwright, but all I can say after hearing a few songs off Release The Stars is, wow. Amazing. "Going To A Town" might be one of the most gorgeous diatribes I've ever heard.
The future's so bright, I gotta wear clothing in only three primary colors. Today: The new White Stripes album available on a thumb drive. Tomorrow: Flying cars and orgasmatrons in every home. EDIT: Holy Christ! I just noticed the pricetag is $99 freaking dollars! Methinks they smoketh too much.
They're ********ing fantastic aren't they? I saw them back in March. One of those rare experiences where you get taken to see a band that you don't know anything about at all because one of your friends is insistent and then you're just blown away. Their new record is incredible. There are a few songs on it that pack such a huge emotional wallop every time I hear them. They're coming back to play around here in September and I can't friggin' wait.
They used to play a bar in town here when they came through, until about a year or so ago. I remember hearing about them. But then, you hear about a lot of folky/blue/new grass acts here and you can't see them all, can you? Since outgrowing that, they've played the opera house next town over, and even that sold out quick. I'm going to have to go to Cleveland to see them. Emotionalism is a great record.
Hells to the yeah. I was just looking at the local orchestra's concert schedule for the upcoming season and they're performng some of Johnny Greenwood's (of Radiohead) work.
Ok, it's not exactly "music", but a little too good to pass up. Here's a news report on a near-tragedy involving a generic "Morning Zoo"-type DJ in Cleveland (on a station called "K-Rock" - was there any doubt?) who was inviting listeners to dare him to do all sorts of "wacky "stunts. Did Dieter dare to descend down a dusty decline in a steel drum? Dieter did. Hijinks ensue, along with temporary paralysis. http://www.newsnet5.com/news/13676797/detail.html
Great write up on one of my favorite hardcore bands that's getting back together (for now anyways ) Bad Brains... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/02/AR2007080200702.html
I loves me some Hives graphics. Smarty pants bonus: Tooling around the official Hives site (recommended:http://www.hives.nu/) I was reading the standard Q&A with lead singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist and came across this gem: Q: What invention would you've liked to invent? A: The Invention.
Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice here. I've started listening to Voxtrot recently and I wanna purchase a CD by them. My favorite song that I've heard by them is 'Kid Gloves'. What CD would you guys suggest I buy?
"Kid Gloves" is on their only full length album, which is simply called Voxtrot and it's a really good album. The others are all EPs, but they're equally great. At some point, definitely pick up the EP with "The Start of Something" on it (I'm blanking on the title.)
