Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Yeah, he's a freaky guy, but it took a freakin' Super Bowl halftime show for me to reach the conclusion that Prince is a transcendent pop music talent.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? That's exactly what I was telling people at the party I was at: "Half of America is saying right now 'Oh that's right -- Prince is amazing.' " The guy's a pop genius, without a doubt. And I still say one of the best guitarists ever.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Absolutely. Previously, that was more or less a secret known only by those who have seen him play live. Thankfully after last night, about a zillion people more are in on that knowledge. After that performance, my wife looked at me and said, "Hell, yeah! Take that Aerosmith and Bon friggin' Jovi! That's how it's done." She's right.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Ya that was a good half time show. I would love it if they would get Beck to play it next year. That would be incredible. Anyway, the reason I came to this thread was to ask if any of you have heard any of the the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album, "Some Loud Thunder". I've heard 'Satan Said Dance' and I really like it. Has anyone heard the whole album? Is it worth purchasing?
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Apparently, they don't mind the fact that we're posting mp3s from out-of-print releases of theirs: Sub Pop's blog has a nice little write-up about my grunge/NW music blog.

Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Nice. Congrats. Are those kid pictures you and your brother?
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Yep. I'm the ponce with the Dutch boy haircut. I have no idea where they found those photos, either.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? In news that likely interests only me The Innocence Mission is releasing a new studio lbum next month! And two days after my birthday. Yeah.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? I like the one record I have by them. I haven't heard anything new by them in ages.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? which one do you have? Glow and Birds of My Neighborhood are in constant heavy rotation for me, since the day I got them really.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? I have Glow I think. That's the yellow one right?
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? Yep. I can't here the opening of That was Another Country, track 4 I think, without my heart just sinking. But that's a whole different story.
Re: The semi-official "why the %&@# did they lock the 'random thoughts about music' thread"? The underlying melody to Arcade Fire's "Ocean of Noise" is a dead ringer for The Fountain of Wayne's "Hackensack". It had been driving me nuts for a few days but I finally figured out where I had heard the melody before.
Here's a link to a bunch of music inpired ink. The above stood out for me for some reason, but there's quite a few nice ones and plenty questionable decisions on display. Long live rock. (Like, "till you're old 'n wrinkly" long...)
I'm sure, or at least I hope, that most of those are temporary. But this stood out: the lyrics to "bachelorette".... in braille?
Download if you dare: It's an entire mp3 album from Lil' Markie. http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/02/365_days_47_lit.html
Lucinda Williams. She's still got it. What is she, 55-60 years old? Yet, on Unsuffer Me, from the new album West she sounds as sexy as ever.
"[What a] ********ing drama queen. What's his ********ing problem? If you've got a ********ing problem, why do you want the whole world knowing about it? I say just sort your self out. You make a ********ing crap album then want everyone to feel sorry for you. What a ********ing tosser." - Liam Gallagher from Oasis, on Robbie Williams admitting himself into rehab this week Do you remember wen Liam called Robbie, "that fat dancer from take that." Those two crack me up. I love them both, but if one of them has to die first, I hope it's Robbie. And I hope Liam does the eulogy.
Oh boy. You know, there are really some women out there who can rock the #0 and still look pretty cute, in a this-woman-might-be-a-little-too-hardcore-for-me kind of way. Exhibit 1. Britney, not one of them. However I don't think that was her motivation here, anyway.
I believe it! I saw her 3 times on the Essence tour and each time I walked away awestruck. She is definitely one of my favorite live performers.
