How come both Porto and Porto fans forgot to commemorate the death of one of it's greatest coaches, Tomislav Ivic?

I suppose you are not a member, so the average prices are 15€ behind the goals, 25€ upper TMN and MEO and 30-40€ for lower TMN and MEO. About half the price if u are a member.

Paid 30 for a lower TMN and they were awesome seats.

That's not a very good method. You'd be better served by checking their financial reports, they're available for the 3 big clubs in their websites.

    go to fcporto.pt

click on the UK flag to pick the english language version

    click on investor relations

    click on annual reports

pick the years you want and download the pdfs, they'll be in english

look for the revenue info you want (consult the index). eg:

In 09/10 Porto made 11 million in ticketing revenue (that includes UEFA games but doesn't include corporate boxes).

    Repeat with slbenfica.pt and sporting.pt

The other 13 clubs generate about 7 million/year in gate revenue.

Well if teams in Spain charge 40 euros for a ticket, England 60 pounds, Italy 25 euros, russia 4 euros, you can get an idea about general amount of money they make at the game.

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm relieved that the transfer window is closed and very optimistic about this season. There is tons of depth at just about every position on this squad, and I'm not worried about the attitude of guys like Alvaro and Fernando--if they want to sit around and pout, we've got other options. But just looking position by position, I think we're stacked:

GK: Helton will be the captain and start most matches, while Bracali should be a fine backup who can play in a few of the cup matches. Sounds like Beto got loaned out to Cluj in Romania, so best of luck to him.

RB: Sapunaru and Fucile have both stayed, which is fine. I'm not a huge fan of either player, but they work well together in a rotation system since they are different types of players who also both struggle with injuries. And we also have Danilo coming in January, though I personally believe he'll be more effective in midfield.

LB: I'm pleasantly surprised to see Alvaro stay, and expect him to perform well and act like the professional that we've enjoyed watching over the past 2 years. But if he gets hurt or becomes a problem, Alex Sandro obviously was an expensive purchase who has tons of potential. My hope is that Sandro learns under Alvaro this year and develops into the starter for next year. And as an emergency, Fucile is also more than capable of slotting into LB effectively.

CB: Important to keep Rolando, who should be motivated to earn a starting spot with the NT now that Carvalho has retired. Out of Otamendi, Maicon and the new signing Mangala, let's assume that one of the three step up and become a reliable partner for Rolando. I still think we might be vulnerable in central defense against top CL sides, but this group should be fine for the league and getting to the last 16 of the CL.

DM: We all know how good Fernando can be when he's fit and motivated, so let's hope that he starts displaying a positive attitude to fight for his position. If not, Souza has looked solid IMO so far and has plenty of potential. Also, guys like Guarin, Defour and Moutinho are very versatile footballers who could allow VP to play without a natural DM if needed.

CM: Absolutely stacked here with Moutinho, Guarin, Belluschi and Steven Defour. Tons of quality and depth, I think this is the strength of our team.

LW: James should continue to develop nicely, I hope he has a terrific season. Varela lost some confidence last year and will need to prove himself to VP. Not sure why we kept Cristian Rodriguez around, but he's a fine professional who won't cause any problems. And then Djalma and Iturbe should be capable of playing on either wing.

RW: Hulk looks fit, healthy and motivated to have another great season at Porto, and we'll obviously need his goals with the uncertainty at the striker position. I have a feeling he'll start almost every big match at this position like last year, but Varela and Djalma should provide adequate depth, and Iturbe could be really exciting once he gets match-fit.

CF: I'm really surprised that Porto didn't buy another striker, but we have to trust the coaches and board in this type of situation. It's clear that both Kleber and Walter have superb natural ability, but the former has struggled early on with his confidence, while the latter has some fitness and off-the-pitch issues that he needs to sort out. If neither guy does well, we can survive until January with Hulk playing here, even though striker obviously isn't his favorite position.

    My ideal starting XI:

    Helton
    Sapunaru-Rolando-Otamendi-Alvaro
    Fernando
    Guarin-Moutinho
    Hulk-Kleber-James

    Second XI:

    Bracali
    Fucile-Maicon-Mangala-Alex Sandro
    Souza
    Belluschi-Defour
    Djalma/Iturbe-Walter/Hulk-Varela

Nice post, Chacal, we seem to see things pretty similarly so I don't have much to add. Hopefully one of Kleber or Walter will come good for us.

I think it will also be crucial to see how VP reads the game when things aren't going well. This was always the problem with Jesualdo and AVB was really good at changing things when needed. Details like that can be crucial for a good European season.

Im very much looking forward too see Defour this season. Seen him a few times in the past and he has always looked quality. Was quite surprised too see us sign him as much bigger clubs have gone in for him in the past. I think thats a real coup by us. :D

Agree completely, this definitely has to be a huge concern for any Porto fan.

And he probably signed with the hope/expectation that either Guarin or Moutinho would be sold and he'd start right away, so we'll see how he does with all this competition in MF.

Does anyone know whats going on with Iturbe? Haven't seen him play yet and I'm hoping he not gonna rot on our bench since everyone speaks so highly of him

He's only 18 and still very raw, so he won't play much at all until the new year, if at all this season. Basically he'll train with the first team every day and perhaps play in a few cup matches, but he still needs to gain more strength and stamina since he hasn't played a lot of club football over the past couple years. Training with a top European side like Porto every day will help him improve and slowly integrate without a ton of pressure, and perhaps he'll get his chance like James Rodriguez last year around the new year.
