Regarding Schalke04 I always think the same thing when I see them. They are a wonderful team on the counterattack but they really need a creative CM to increase their quality in possession. Especially against defensive minded teams which is the case in 80% of their home games.

What I could imagine for next year is something like this:

    Giefer
    -Uchida-Höwedes-Papadopoulos-Kolasinac-
    -Neustädter--de Bruyne-
    Farfán-------Draxler-------Bastos
    Huntelaar

    - goal: Giefer's contract expires in 2014 so I assume Düsseldorf will let him go for € 5-6m. He'll be a great #1 for Schalke04. Goodbye Hildebrand.
    - central defense: It is fine as it is and they can finally get rid of the overpaid Metzelder. Farewell.
    - fullbacks: I don't think they can really afford a better pair of fullbacks. It'll probably come down to Kolasinac/Fuchs and Uchida/Höger/Höwedes on the other side. Carvajal would be great but he's not available and Fuchs has a big contract til 2015 so replacing him isn't easy.
    - central midfield: Kevin de Bruyne would probably cost € 12-15m and is only affordable and realistic in case Schalke reaches the Uefa Champions League in 2013/14. Huntelaar's injury is obviously a major blow but they can still do it. Maybe they can even loan him with a purchase option? Neustädter, Jones, Höger and Matip are very much sufficient for depth and the defensive part. Frankfurt's Rode might be an alternative in case de Bruyne isn't possible.
    - offensive row: They'll keep Bastos til 2014 on loan so Affelay's departure won't be missed. Barnetta and the young Max Meyer will be there for squad depth. They can hopefully get rid of Obasi and replace him with somebody else. Raffael's future depends on Kiew's price tag but I'd keep him for the striker position and 2nd striker option for tactical purposes. Especially with Marica's contract expiring this summer. The Rumanian could be replaced by Mike Hanke.
    - forwards: Huntelaar, Hanke and Raffael would be an increase in quality and depth on the position

Well I'm very much interested in this summers transfer activity at Schalke to say the least. Let's hope they reach the CL.

He never makes mistake, Its always the players around him that are to blame. Read the NT threads and you would see from our resident analyst

There are rumors that Schalke are interested in Sebastian Jung who has a year left on his contract and could get him cheap. I think Uchida is a pretty good full back but we will see.

I dont think they are looking for a goalkeeper. I think they rate Lars Unnerstall very highly but he is out injured now.

De Bruyne is going back to Chelsea. Rode is a more realistic option and I think he would be interested in going to S04. It would be a very good transfer for them.

I dont like what I`ve seen from Raffael and Hanke is not very good. They need a better 2nd choice striker than those two. Barnetta on the wing rarely makes any impact. He seems like a very limited player. I dont know who they should buy as a 2nd choice striker ... maybe one of the promising German player like Lasogga.

Wow...gus Johnson just about losing his cookies every time Chelsea or man unit get in the attacking third...I like his enthusiasm, and he's an admitted footy neophyte, but he's going absolute bonkers :) is a great match so far....

well they rushed him to play in the derby against Schalke when he still wasn't fully fit , there was no need for that.
