That story's been around for a while now. That, much like anything Siena tries to do, is a pipe dream.
Everything is a pipe dream I dont even know how juve got their new stadium. you guys must of shelled out big money to somebody in the city council to get things done.
If any team really wants to build a new stadium, and they have their own money to do so, then they should buy the land from the city where the current stadium is located, play one season or so somewhere nearby, demolish the old stadium they played in, and build on top of it. The problem is that the cities want way too much money for the land where the current stadium stands. We lucked out with our deal with the city of Turin. The other problem is the "all talk, no action" mentality of the owners. Berlusconi has the power to make it happen, but he doesn't have the money to buy Milan a stadium.
One thing that worked for Juve was that the Delle Alpi was left to rot. The old stadium in Torino was renovated for the winter Olympics and that was the new home for both Juventus and Torino. So it had to help in making a deal. Other locations, the local government has too much of a stronghold on their facilities.
I actually believe Berlusconi is gonna take the chance to seem like the savior of Italian football. Berlusconi will make the stadium laws pass once he goes back into power. Idk, thats my opinion anyways.
Each stadium is different. Etihad Stadium is owned by Manchester City Council. Liberty Stadium is owned by Swansea's City Council. Every other Premier League team owns their stadium, or is owned by a consortium who also holds an ownership stake in the club that plays there.
The stadium was originally built using the council's money to try to get the 2000 Summer Olympics, but it failed. The stadium was still built to host the Commonwealth Games in 2002, and after that, the stadium was converted to a full football stadium from an athletics stadium with a running track. Manchester City pay a fee to the city council to use the stadium, and since the council makes a shit ton of money back, they don't want to sell it.
Before the sheiks took over, City did invest a bunch of money to have the stadium redeveloped for football, but they only collect a certain amount of money off of the stadium. For the city council, they make a shit ton of money from it, plus money from the lease that City pays them. They wouldn't sell to the sheiks.
Since they sold Maine Road, no they don't own it outright, but they actually have a very favorable deal with the City of Manchester and the team actually makes money off of it and has exclusive rights to develop around the stadium.
