2010/2011 season- Manchester United, Chelsea, Man City Arsenal http://soccernet.espn.go.com/tables/_/league/eng.1/season/2010/barclays-premier-league?cc=5901 Spurs not in top 4. Star players only go to top clubs. Where they would play with other top talents play in elite Europe and win trophies. Spurs, nor Liverpool can do these
Newcastle has had an amazing transfer policy since Alan Pardew took over. Much respect. They are on the verge of replacing Ba (who they got on a free) with Loic Remy, just signed Debuchy, otherwise since Pardew came in they've got Anita from Ajax, Cisse from Freiburg, Santon from Inter, Obertan from United, Cabaye from Lille, Hatem Ben Arfa from Marseille, and Chiek Tiote from Twente. Of all these players, only Cisse cost more than 10 million euros. Meanwhile, in the same timespan, Newcastle unloaded Steven Ireland (notorious squad cancer), Andy Carrol (we all know the price tag), and Joey Barton (lol), among others. Fantastic progressive transfer activity from them and Pardew has proved himself quite a savvy manager provided the right circumstances.
Sorry, you're right. I meant Champions League position. Top 5, top 4, not a huge difference. Still not the "capitulating"" you implied earlier. And was Luis Suarez not a top player when he decided to join mid-table Liverpool? Was Van der Vaart not a star when he joined Spurs? Is Hugo Lloris not a top goalkeeper? Liverpool and Tottenham are two of the most valuable clubs on the planet (if that's how to define "big").
Well summarized, nicely done. We're like the anti-ManCity. We also have several youth promising youth players. Unfortunate for NUFC, we've been plagued by a ton of injuries, which is why we're in the position we are now.
Great article about Freiburg and Streich http://bundesligafanatic.com/freiburgs-spinning-top-and-the-brain-behind-it/
Bale is leaving Spurs, he's repeatedly expressed his desire to move on and AVB recognizes that which is why he's making moves now. Though if Bale stays, it'll be a very formidable team, kind of like the one that got into the CL under redknapp.
MLS response to Sepp Blatter's comments.... spot on. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...'surprised'-by-sepp-blatter-criticism?cc=5901
WHO is Don Garber???? And I'm no authority...but I cannot agree here after trying to watch 2 finals..with the 2 best teams in the league for that season...and don't get me started on the youth system...the whole system is a racket for hacks and wannabes (no offense eiss and other coaches here). My experience since moving back here is maddening. Until they break the rich priviledged kid mold, it's never going to be what it could. And really, HTF does a club program get more exposure than HS Soccer??? Oh wait, it doesn't cost THOUSANDS of $$$ to participate in HS ball. **end of rant**
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Garber Basically MLS president of sorts. Friend of mine's brother-in-law is his assistant attorney. Been a good gig for him, riding Garber's coat-tails to the top. You are incorrect. Once you get passed the root problem - the corporate machine of the youth development system - it boils down to this for me... ... the country is so expanse with so much variety of talent much of which never gets seen that you really need the resources to scout these players. I feel we lack desperately a scouting system that enables chances for players. Perhaps a 'scholarship program' as well could be introduced to allow for the impoverished player(s) to excel. My two Euro.

Liverpool have a huge history and enormous global fanbase, they're certainly not west brom or anything. Spurs in recent years have managed to push themselves to the top and are now firmly in the top 4, and would've had CL football if it werent for the fact chelsea beat an incompetent bayern. Also, Spurs have a very convincing manager.
The huge history would not help you attract top players if you are not doing well currently. Liverpool surely werent attracting top players between 1993 and 2003 despite their huge history. BmGladbach has a huge history same with Aston Villa, Nottingham forest that wont atract top players. More top players would play for clubs without Liverpools history like Citeh, Arsenal etc. The fact is still that rarely would you play for a top NT if you are not playing regular CL football or winning trophies
Madrid playing home without Iker on the goal for the second game in a raw... here hoping they miss out on the CL next season edit: ha! they scored
LOL terrible goal keeping ... Adan gets a red card and Iker coming in i am guessing Unless he wants to put Ronaldo on the goal to teach Iker a lesson
Liverpool have a TON of money, which is partially a result of their "huge history" / worldwide popularity. Which means they can pay players more. Which is also very important to top footballers. Also, Liverpool are not Villa or Forest. We're not equating Liverpool with Arsenal and City, or saying history is a substitute for on-field success. We're just saying it's still a relevant factor, at least in Liverpool's case. Wasn't the original argument concerning why someone would move from Schalke to Spurs?
Iker screwed another chance just after he came in but Sociedad didnt capitalize on that. Oh Madrid, you never stop on amusing me.
