Glad it didn't end worse, but we could be 3 points off of KC with a game in hand right now, which would have been a great feel.

Forget your hate for 90 minutes, and hope DC nicks some points off of NY tonight.

Remember all your hate, and laugh at the futility as Chivas hopefully downs NE in a battle surely to bore even fans.

Hope for a Philly resurgence to quell any rising Columbus dreams of a shot at the playoffs

Optimistic prediction of the day: we are closer, timewise, to our next win than our last loss. (I haven't seen any good optimistic facts or stats around*)

*unless you are a Pause fan, in which case: Optimistic Fact: Pause is already training again, and will probably be available to play shortly.

    Results were mixed tonight.

The biggest one was the DC game. DeRo got his 100th, but Conde equalized late. (2-2)

DC has temporarily jumped us into 4th, they lead us by a point, having played one more game
but by dropping 4 points in two matches, we can now overtake NY if we win our games. They currently are 5 points ahead of us, with a two game advantage.

Columbus managed to score a late late late (95') game winner despite being a man down, and new boy Higuain added two more assists. Meaning I still have to begrudgingly consider them to be in the playoff hunt.

Huge 6 pointer against Houston this Sunday. Only a win will do in my mind. We would leap frog them, and be ahead of them with a game still in hand. A tie would put us level, but behind on the tiebreaker, again with a game in hand. But with SKC still ahead of us, we can't afford to drop points against teams that aren't as good as us. And anybody with Calen Carr in a starting lineup, is not as good as us. Also, Tally Hall has a stupid sounding name, and I hope we put 7 behind him.

Second place is ours if we win our games. SKC still needs to drop 3 points (besides the ones they will drop to us) in order for us to take first.

Hard to disagree with that logic!

Yes, a win this weekend is vital.

Optimistic baseless conjecture: We have cleared some decent space and gotten some allocation money. DP move coming soon? I don't particularly care for him, but Del Piero is a free agent...just saying. Not sure who else might be a free agent and allowed to sign still

Columbus wins again and passes us in the standings, if we don't beat Houston we move to 6th in the conference.

But, it's sixth place with a game in hand on Houston and Columbus, and two games in hand on SKC, NY, and DC. Based on PPG, we are in 3rd place. Don't fret, we can still overtake everybody (except SKC) in points as long as we keep winning. We can finish second with no help. First place is doable, considering there are 2 SKC-NY games still left.

And the East is really close right now. We're looking at 3rd vs 6th, with a win or loss tonight.

As if a 3-1 win weren't an optimistic fact itself, here are some more.

    Alex scored his first goal
We are in third place at the end of a match week for the first time since week 2 (I think. we were third after 24 according to wiki, but I seem to remember it was only because we had played extra games)
We have 13 wins, tied for fourth best in MLS right now
Announced attendence of 17,007 is the 35th highest of all time for the Fire.
Fire are 7-0-1 against East opponents when playing at TP (4 of 8 remaining games are at home)
13 wins is tied for the 4th highest total through 26 games ('98, '99, '01 better, '05 equal)

Edit: One last optimistic stat, we now have scored more goals than SKC (the tie break), meaning for the time being, they only need to drop three, rather than four points, for us to be able to overtake them and finish first.

Oh please let this happen and let SJ and the Galaxy fall apart so Garber has to make another play-off rule change to avoid having to watch MLS Cup being played at TP!!

Consider this: the only thing standing between us and second place in the East is league-worst Toronto FC a week from Wednesday.

Optimistic stats for the day: the Fire have won 9 times at TP, the most in any season at the stadium.
With the win the other day, the Fire are now on 44 points with 8 games to play. They managed only 43 all last season.
Half full/Half empty stat for the day: Over the last five games, only SKC and Columbus have a better record than us (both at 4-0-1). Montreal is tied with us (4-1-0).

The Fire are at 6th in the MLS single table, 2 points behind third place NYRB. As it stands, if either San Jose or KC makes the MLS Cup final, the third place team would qualify for CCL.

If you want to watch some incredibly boring soccer, NE and Columbus are on right now in a game that has minor playoff implications. its 0-0 just before half time, and at this point, neither team deserves to gain any points by playing this match.

Let's hope that this game ends in a tie or New England win.......Columbus is on a four game winning streak and making there way up the standing a tie or lose will help our chances....

Revs are up 2-nil, Chad Marshall just scored an own goal. He headed the ball back to his goalie but didnt realize his keeper was coming off his line. Then he gave up on the play when he could of probably cleared it off his line lol. I cant see the Revs loosing this game, they easily been the better team this half.

ETA: Revs win 2-nil, great result for us.

Columbus definitely looked like a team playing their 5th game in 14 days. They had nothing left for this game.
