Just got this text "BREAKING NEWS: Club acquires forward Eric Hassli from Toronto FC. Stay tuned for more player news later today. #DTID" Thoughts?
Wait..........am I reading that right? Toronto FC announced Monday the club acquired a conditional second round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft from FC Dallas in exchange for Designated Player and Forward Eric Hassli. We got Eric Hassli and a designated player slot (perhaps to be filled by Hassli) for a 2nd round draft pick? Good piece of business if you ask me.
I'm betting there's much less JDG -style salary help (if any), if we paid that little for him. Hope he helps. He's certainly a bigger swing than I thought they'd take.
There must be a mistake in that 1st paragraph about the terms of the deal, because Payne's comments are: Payne added "The most important aspect of this deal is creating salary cap room and a designated player spot. We'd like to thank Eric for his contributions to our club and wish him all the best with his new team." So it sounds like TFC is actually getting the DP slot. DP slot & a 2nd round pick for Hassli makes more sense than the other way.
I think you may be confusing the wording(unless I'm confusing yours). I think what they mean is that we are getting Eric Hassli, who is a designated player. Not Eric Hassli and a designated player slot. I don't think DP slots can be traded anymore.
They're getting a slot by giving up Hassli, i.e. Hassli is no longer using one of their available slots.
Yup. Yup. Yup. Thanks. I figured out my error a couple of posts ago. So we gave up a 2nd round draft pick for Hassli. And we thought so much of our 2013 2nd round pick that we used it on a guy that might want to "plant churches" instead of play pro soccer. [TBD] We needed a forward and have tons of cap space. TFC had a want-away forward and needed cap space. Seems to be a mutually beneficial deal.
Big D Soccer (and the official FCD tweet) imply more moves coming - Daniel Robertson @DRobertsonFCD FCD isn't done making moves today. And I'm not talking Pipico
3rd Degree @3rdDegreeNet Ramon Nunez was at FCD Stadium Today, going to Cancun with team. In talks with #FCDallasto sign. More to come on that from Todd Date later.
I like the move. He should fill the slot vacated by Villar quite nicely. I've also seen him play on the wing at times. Or am I crazy? Did Nunez ever get US citizenship or a green card? Would he take up an international slot?
So we've.................. 1) Addressed our forward situation.............nicely!!! 2) Nunez could fill the vacated Villar slot, and perhaps provide help on the wings. 3) Michel's having a good pre-season, and can offer us some help at left back. What am I still concerned about? 1) Depth on the wings after the Shea departure. If Hollingshead does play for us, that would help. 2) I'm not convinced yet that we've filled the DeGuzman role. If we're rolling into the season with a "defensive midfield" crew of Luccin, Warshaw, and Ulloa...................(plus possibly help from Jacobson)...............are we happy with that? 3) Don't know if we've downgraded at keeper or not. I'll have to see Fernandez or "the new" Seitz first.
So we now have Cooper, Hassli, and Perez. Who sits on the bench? Or does one of these guys go to MF? Or is this the dawn of the Schellas Hyndman Full Bore FCD Fun and Gun with 3 or 4 forwards (4 if we add in Castillo)? I feel something strange. I think it could be a mix of excitement and mild optimism.
I think it will be rare enough for all three to be healthy and available that I doubt anyone will have major PT concerns. We already know Blas will be out with a suspension and then WCQ. Baladez and Top fill out the bench. Going into a season, we are as set at FW as we've been in half a decade.
"A two-match suspension and an undisclosed fine have been issued to Blas Perez of FC Dallas for his violent conduct that endangered the safety of Bobby Burling of Chivas USA in the 35th minute of the match on Sunday, October 28th. " The question remains though. What exactly did he do?
They don't show the actual play in the highlight video, but the thumbnail preview on the top video shows a Blas elbow upside Burling's head. http://www.fcdallas.com/blog/post/2012/10/28/match-highlights-fc-dallas-2-chivas-usa-2
The Evil Empire strikes again. Hassli and Cooper to sink the cRapids and the baby Goats on their own then! So does this mean we have a new three headed monster in the form of Cooper-Blas-Hassli? Or will SH keep one on the bench (of course there is a big IF that they'll be healthy)?
