Salaries released today... Beitashour only on 170k at Vancouver... we could have easily kept him for the same amount that barklage and gorlitz are on combined: http://www.mlsplayers.org/files/April 1, 2014 Salary Information - By Club.pdf What a massive, massive own goal by the front office. Very p*ssed off right now!
Excellent point. Some other tidbits from a quick perusal. Barklage ($65,000) makes more than Dan Gargan ($48,500). Pierazzi earns $240,000, not the speculated $90,000 because he is a discovery player.
i would guess beita was tired of being under appreciated. letting morrow and beita walk should of been the nail in jd's coffin. absolutely ridiculous
disgusting bit of business on both accounts. I hope the next administration looks at these to as exactly what not to do.
To put SJ off season moves at outside back in perspective. Just like I expected .. Beita was willing to take less money (than market) in order to stay in SJ. I would not be surprised if we might still have at least Beita if they could offload Hernandez. It was sad to see a local hero go. I was Ok with him making a name for himself overseas, but playing for another MLS team... I don't like it at all, especially a Western Conference team that we'll play 3 times in the regular season. I'm still happy to see that he's making good money in Vancouver, he deserves it.
WC in Brazil playing for Iran??? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/steven-beitashour-ready-push-world-165200135--mls.html
"Former San Jose Earthquakes star Steven Beitashour enjoying Vancouver" (San Jose Mercury News - Wednesday, 4/30/14) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Man, proofreading, anyone? From the article, we find out that: Beita enjoys staring at Leland High School: "Beitashour, 27, stared at San Jose-Leland High" He enjoys talking about planes: "Beitashour hasn't changed from the plane-talking, hard-working defender San Jose fans came to know" And he has a hard time getting verb tenses right: "It come down to them not having enough money." BTW, it's not that the Quakes "don't have enough money". It's a salary capped league. The Quakes pretty much spend at the cap limit. And Beita is not going to be a DP. So the problem is that they determined (rightly or wrongly) that they'd rather use the $170k elsewhere.
I had the same reaction. How many times was he on the verge? Guess they figure no one reads the soccer articles. One minute of editing would have improved the piece.
Just because he took $170k from Vancouver, doesn't automatically mean he'd take $170k from us. Think about THAT for a second.
I think the opportunity to play in front of his family and friends and to help open the new stadium would have persuaded him to take $170k from us.
yeaaaah.......sooommething tells me that if 170K was on the table for both sides he would have chose us fadedtoblack....... Beita was no merc, he just wanted to be paid appropriately, and 170K is a modest sum. is that a 100% assessment? no, you can never be 100 percent, but when you put the rational components together, you could make much more of a case for him staying than going.
