Didn't expect to hear the phrase "strategic partnership" actually come out of a Tottenham player's mouth. I thought it was just something you'd see in a press release. But there you have it.

If he plays consistently like he did against the Sounders, he will be an MLS Newcomer of the Year candidate if they still have the award. His touch was great, definitely on the higher end of talent for the MLS (again, if he's like that consistently). He worked great with Convey on multiple occasions including his goal, watching two good players work together like that is pretty uplifting and bodes well for SJ.

Let's see... he can play in the middle and probably the outside, he can use both feet, and he can go to goal but still be looking for a good pass while he's doing it... probably much cheaper than Geo, and has skillset to make you forget about Alvarez instantly.

Can he play on the wing? It seems - from my extremely limited exposure to him, not having seen more than highlights - that he's got the speed and quickness and skill on the ball to play wide. I imagine he'd be more of the diagonal slashing run type of winger - more Lagos than Lewis - but with Convey being a traditional wide man you can have that difference. Can he cross? Because if he can play wide, it gets Stephenson on the field as well.

Not a bad idea, as Gjoey may be one of the weaker players in the current starting 11. However, Dawkins is the one guy that seems to be able to attack down the spine. Stephenson doesn't do that much. He will either look for the longer pass or he will take one of his patented bombs. But he doesn't attack on the ground much.

Besides, I've got the right mid spot picked out for Ellis. I still believe that he'll be the starting right mid by the end of the season.

I agree, I think Ellis will be the man at right mid, just like lefty Damien Duff plays it at Fulham.

I hope Ellis is more like Duff, DiMaria and Robben, and not the other player we all know.

Simon Dawkins seems he is turning into a force in the MLS with his 2nd goal in two weeks. This is the type of player I think more MLS teams should sign. Or rather players who are younger but up and coming players who can't find room on EPL rosters. I know Europe is filled with them. The trick is signing them and bringing them over.

If he keeps scoring like this Spurs will pull him back like a hot potato. Few teams need an in-form goalscorer more than them. Maybe we can get Torres on free transfer from Chelsea when that happens. :)

and that is why im so excited to see Dawkins succeed. If he succeeds, more young Tottenham players will be willing to take the chance. Tottenham themselves will also be willing to take the chance. Hopefully they can give us some outside backs sooner or later :D

do we have a limit on how many loans we can bring in? I know LA brought in 3 brazilians on a whim last year.

I'll cop to being (happily) wrong too. I didn't think he'd be this effective so soon, and I thought he might be a little slow. He's not a burner, but he's fast enough.

Re: The Official Simon Dawkins thread

I had made a post sometime back asking if anyone has heard of this kind of player acquisition happening for any other team.

I think this is a first: A MLS team getting a young prospect out of a collaboration with a European team.

It is probably the only way MLS teams are going to get these players until MLS gets a better reputation in Europe.

LA & NY have changed and made up many rules since 1996. If history repeats itself, (and in their case it usually does to their advantage) I don't see how the future will be any different.

and thats why this is Simon Dawkins thing is such a big deal; for us and the league in general. Dont think people realize just how important this is really in general. We've got alot riding on Dawkins in honesty, if we want these young fiery overseas players.

While they're magically adding a 4th DP, the Cosmos will be adding their 11th.

Agreed, this could be more significant than any DP, in his "sunset" years, has been so far, in terms of giving the league some clout to the rest of the world.

Is he a Brit? Imagine him showing up on an and England squad with his club affiliation "San Jose Earthquakes" :D
