He's had some really poor match ups with opposing mids this year. Still, he is probably one of a few players we could actually trade for value so I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen in a bid to upgrade in the midfield. That probably won't happen though until end of season given we didn't waive "WalMart" before the summer transfer window.
Walt is a lot better than what everyone is giving him credit for. Give us a better center mid that can move the ball "up the field" and pair that with an upgrade in Bacas spot, and we'll see a different Walt. Also are we not playing him out of position? His main position is forward and middle second. IMO he is being wasted just like we waisted Geovanni. But in all reality we aren't going to see anyones full potential this year, until the house has been cleaned of a Yallop regime/ideal. We cut off the head of the beast, yet his body still remains
Those are good points but the type of players we need aren't the ones who need help to bring the best out of themselves but rather players who can bring the best out of their teammates. WalMart isn't one of them.
True, he's not one of those players, but who could be one of those players? I don't see anyone who could work with our mid right now. However with different coaching next season he's a keeper IMO
I agree he would be fine if we had a quality attacking mid and better coaching. A good example would be what Valeri and Porter have done with the Timbers. I rate Cronin about equal to Will Johnson and even Chara isn't that much better than Baca but with Valeri creating on the field and Porter creating beyond the touch line those previously middling CDMs (Johnson and Chara) look like studs all of a sudden.
Last year, yes, but this year his play has been atrocious (besides those two sweet goals). We'll see I hope he pans out. He's a solid dude and teammate. One thing Will Johnson has on Cronin is he's an offensive threat, while Cronin's game is defensive. Johnson also has a better shot on goal.
Nine goals (and just four assists) in 114 matches with RSL isn't what I would call an "offensive threat" but yeah he probably can kick the ball better than Cronin.
IMO Sam is nowhere near the offensive threat as Johnson is. Most shots I've seen from Sam have been sky balls. His shot on target is horrid (maybe/hopefully a new coach can change that) Edit: I hope it is the system
Looked solid against the Sounders. I love Cronin when he is on his game. Wish he would be more consistent.
Cronin is the reverse Salinas. He has 3 good games to 1 bad. Salinas is one good game and 3 bad. Cronin has become a hell of a player for us
Wiki says its his 85th game but Dibley just said Sam Cronin is making his 100th Quakes appearance. I guess he was including all competitions.

I know he makes mistakes but who doesn't? I really like Cronin and appreciate his contribution and I really like hi movement off the ball and his positioning in the midfield.
anyone else afraid he is gonna struggle in the first half like beita and gordon did after off season surgery last season?
Yes , I'm afraid of it but looking at the depth of the roster, we have no choice but to use him injured or not.
