Yes.. lol why wouldn't he?? it wasn't a career threatening injury, he didn't break anything nor one that required any work on it. His speed won't diminish from it.. minor injury, he should be back fresh.
Yes, it's just a knee sprain, didn't require any surgery, so there's no reason to expect any long term impact. I think the only issue could be how long he needs to train to get fit enough to be able to play. For all of the guys who missed the preseason, I think the biggest risk is that they come back and then suffer muscle injuries due to not being fully fit before they play. So while it's tempting to bring some of these guys back quickly, it's important to try to get them to get enough training before they go full out in matches. For someone like Chavez who suffered pulled muscles last year, giving him the extra few weeks to hopefully train and get more fit is a good idea. Having said that, I can't wait to see Marvin back out on the field playing.
Spot on, reason why they gave him the extra month precaution. He also said he's been training hard in getting back into match fitness.. hopefully he picks up where he left off last season.
"MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends Marvin Chavez" (SJEarthquakes.com - Friday, 5/10/13) (John Todd) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
It is not that Chavez doesn't deserve to be suspended, it is the incredibly arbitrary suspensions and punishments that the committee is handing out that is frustrating. The little glimpse in to their decision making process was not exactly enlightening. For example they cite Lenhart's history as a basis for issuing his two game suspension for stepping on the guys face, but suspend Chavez for the same length without the history of warnings. Then take no action on Eddie Johnson because the referee saw his flying knee and issued no card. Yet no card was issued on Chavez and the linesman was right there.
There is also no distinction made between the Lenny stomp, which was arguably dangerous and certainly painful, and the Marvin jab, which was more insulting than injurious. And they would have been smart to have ignored Johnson, since there's no way to fit that incident into their typology.
Well, sad to say that Marvin deserves a suspension, although it ought to be just one game. The unfairness of it all, especially with EJ getting off scott free for much worse VC, is terribly annoying.
It's not Chavez only. Lenhart, Gordon, Wondo and everyone needs to focus on playing he game and not to do anything unnecessary. These actions invite suspensions, whether it is fair or not, and it is affect the line up and the team performance. And when you are off a few games, you need a few games to build up the form again. We can't afford these cycles. If the players think they are unfairly judged, hold the anger, play the game and get the result no one can deny. Play as underdog. Last year it was passion and it helped driving the team. This year it went overboard and we lost focus.
"MLS Commissioner reduces Chavez's suspension" (SJEarthquakes.com - Wednesday, 5/15/13) (Michael Pimentel / ISIPhotos.net) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
This is a deserved reduction, Emory flicked up his heel at Chavez from the ground. It's time for the Dumbass Committee to start watching the plays before we react. Sure the reaction usually gets called but thats in game, they have a resposibility to look at the whole play if they're gonna be judge, jury and executioner.
But why did Gerber reduce the suspension? I expect there should have been a reason given. Whatever, I'll take it. There have been a ton of fouls, many of them card worthy, against us this season that have gone completely unpunished. go quakes! - Mark
Should have given a reason, but who's going to make them? Maybe someone pointed out that Emory had been fouling Marvin all game? Or maybe they just decided that they needed to scale back the punishments so as to keep something in reserve. It's like when you tell your kid that he's grounded for a week and won't get dessert for a month for forgetting to turn off the television...what's left when he really oversteps?
Fine, then how a yellow card for Emory? or better yet, a suspension for the scum-bag? And how is it that the refs "don't see" fouls on our team? How did they not see Shea get shoved into the boards off the ball a couple of weeks back?! How do they not call interfering with the opposing team's free kick? Or our guys getting leveled in the box? I'm getting depressed by this. go quakes! - Mark
AEG doesn't like uppity Colorado above LA in the standings so they ordered Garber to suspend Buddle and unsuspend Chavez. Or that's what our resident conspiracy theorist would likely tell you.
Have you forgotten to take your meds? I get that this is parody, but really. Even if Gerber had said: "We've let a lot of these go with just a red card, so I thought that this was a bit harsh, comparatively." Something! Anything! Are the rest of you seeing all of these posts centered? Yeesh! Maybe I need to take my meds?! go quakes! - Mark
