"San Jose Earthquakes in World Cup Qualifying: Victor Bernardez and Marvin Chavez named to Honduras National Team" (Quake, Rattle & Goal - Thursday, 10/11/12) (Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
They finally fixed the MLS stats and gave Chavez the assist he should have had from the Colorado game (and took it away from Ramiro). So now Chavez has 13 assists this year and is only 2 behind Zusi for the lead in MLS - it would be great if he could get two assists on Saturday (both for Wondo goals of course). Marvin is also only one goal behind the all time Quakes assist leader for a season (Eddie Lewis with 14).
I think the biggest difference in our offense this year has been Chavez. His speed and ability to hit great balls off of corners has just been invaluable. To me, the key to how far the Quakes go in the playoffs will be the play of Dawkind and Chavez.
Yes, plus I give him partial credit for Alan Gordon's assist on EJ's game winning USMNT goal in Antigua. Gordo hit the ball exactly the way Chavez hits his occasional floaters over the top. I am pretty sure I had never before seen Gordo hit a ball like that in any game.
Yeah, I was glad to see that they finally fixed it. I emailed MLSSoccer in August but nothing. I emailed the Quakes a few days ago...I assume that's what did it. Among players with more than a couple assists, Chavez has the second highest assists-per-90 in the league behind Higuain. Among players with 10 or more he has the highest rate. I definitely wanted to see the stats fixed because it emphasizes how great the acquisition of Chavez was. He's in Donovan/Rosales/Zusi/Davis territory in terms of assists. He's definitely one of our most influential players.
By way of comparison (if we really need more reasons to gloat) -- here are Scott "King" Sealy's stats for this season: Minutes: 641 Goals: 2 Assists: 0
Actually, for Seals, that is a good season, in comparison to 2010+2011: Minutes: ~950 Goals: 0 Assist: 1 (IIRC this was kind of an "accidental" or "unintentional" assist, like the one in 2008 against LA when Alvarez ran into the box and took the ball off of Seals's foot for a goal.)
the rumors of where MVP Sealy will go in the January transfer window are red hot... Chelsea, PSG, and maybe a surprise bid by nouveau riche Anzhi in Russia.

Any word yet on when Marvin will be back? We need the return of our own brand of Chavizmo; differing greatly but with some similarities to the Venezuelan kind.

Yea it was announced earlier this month that he'd be out for one more month even though he's been givin the clear to return to the pitch to play. Staff just wants to be safe that he's fully healthy for his comeback.
Even when he eventually returns to the pitch, will he ever really be the same again? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
