i'm a bit ignorant i guess of this type of injury...so what exactly causes his calf muscle to give out? is it a tear or a result of over exertion. can someone clarify. it sounds like a career ender if it does not heal properly.
Googled "Calf Strain Injury" and got this: The calf muscles consist of the Gastrocnemius which is the big muscle at the back of the lower leg and the Soleus muscle which is a smaller muscle lower down in the leg and under the Gastrocnemius. Either of these two muscles can be strained (torn). (Don't try and follow the links, I can't get them undone and they don't work)
I think he tore it. It's more likely acute over-stretch, not chronic overexertion. The problem is it will heal by scar tissue and never be exactly the same. The more times he does damage to it, the more scar tissue, the easier it is to injure it again.
Hernadez was our Defensive Player of the year and this year we have sucked on defense.....I have to say I am getting pretty excited to get him back on the pitch this weekend *knock on wood*

Even a smart guy like Jason doesn't get it. There are good and not so good finishers, but in general finishing comes and it goes. What teams should strive to do is generate the maximum amount of chances while limiting chances for the opposition. The finishing will come and go, and even out over the long run. Obsessing over it isn't useful. The team should be focusing instead on holding possession, disrupting possession, closing down on space to limit chances, and getting better offensive flow to create more and better chances.
I think you need to give the players a little break on this. How would it look if he was totally honest & didn't spin it optimistically? I would expect total chaos.
Well, he could just say the kinds of things that RJ said when asked about what they need to improve on - closing down faster, etc. It wasn't just about finishing / not finishing.
