FYI - Great Lakes brewery has launched in DC. I've seen it at Cairo Liquors on 17th and Corcoran and it is on draft at Pizza Pete's in Columbia Heights (Elliot Ness). If you like darker beers, do yourself a favor and pick up some Edmund Fitzgerald... And just for fun, get yourself some Burning River and laugh at the fact that it happened (several times)...
I'd also recommend their Dortmunder Gold. Been drinking their beers for years here in the Mistake by the Lake.
Well once again the beer situation at RFK sucks, unless somebody found something better than $10 Sam Adams Summer.
Instead of having one stand with Guinness/Harp/Yuengling and another with Bass/Becks over in my area (by the team store), they had Guinness/Harp/Bass/Becks together in one line and, at one point, that line ran out of cups. Pretty sad. Hope that changes before the next game. The good news was that when they were brought more cups, those were bigger. Guess that'll get corrected before the next game if nothing else does.
And they ran out of Guinness and Harp at half time. I was going to buy a black and tan, but the stand only had Becks.
My total beer spending at RFK so far this year = $10.00. It's going to stay around that unless they make some changes.
******** yes. I hadn't even thought about this possibility but it makes sense with them having the relationship with Sly Fox (best Pilsner in the business IMO). That will be the head destroying tailgate beverage of all time.

Up to three new production breweries may be in the offing for DC Metro in the next year or so. http://www.portcitybrewing.com/ (Alexandria, VA) http://www.dcbrau.com/ (Washington, DC) The third has very sketchy details but I'll try to find the article on it. K. PS. Dear DC United, please for the love of all that is sacred and holy get some better beer at the stadium. Is it too much to ask for the very easy to get Dogfish Head 60 Minute, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (which you've had before), Allagash White, etc. They ain't exactly rare and go down a treat in the very, very hot confines of East Capitol Street. Thanks, MeridianFC
Here's the Kitsock WaPo article on the breweries that may enter the fray: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/all-we-can-eat/beer/beer-dcs-impending-brewery-boo.html The best shot has got to be the Favio Garcia venture. He's a stunning brewer with a good history of many of the better brews from Old Dominion (R.I.P.).
Just dropped by the St. George Brewery in Hampton, VA. Took a tour, tasted 6 beers, and am bringing back a mixed case: Golden Ale Nut Brown Ale Lager Summer Ale And 2 4-packs: Tupper's Pils Tupper's Hop-pocket Pils If any of y'all find yourselves in Hampton*, pay them a visit. You'll be glad you did. *Sorry Bill, just a quick visit for Mom's birthday. No time to visit friends - the brewery is a one-minute drive from my mother's house.
My B.I.L had the quote of the night, hell the quote of the year. "If [United] are going to play this shit the least the could do is offer some good beer."
The crap beers were $2 off last night. So instead of insanely unbelievably overpriced, they were just way overpriced.
An update/confirmation of who is coming online in the next year: 28 North Custom Beer Works Ashburn, VA http://www.28northbeer.com/home.html Favio Garcia, late of Old Dominion is head brewer. He will be bringing the thunder, do not doubt it. Port City Brewing Alexandria, VA http://www.28northbeer.com/home.html Johnathan Reeves, late of Appalachian Brewing, with malt shovel in hand. DC Brau Washington, DC http://www.dcbrau.com/ Tailgaters rejoice, their beer will come in cans. Jeff Hancock, late of Flying Dog, manning the mash. 3 Star Brewing Washington, DC http://3starsbrewing.com/ These guys look to be the maniacs straight out of the gate. Baying Hound Aleworks Rockville, MD http://www.baying-hound.com/ Without a doubt the smallest in the area. Maybe in any area. Here's to the nanobrewery. Actually producing now. Two more are being talked about but don't seem to have shovels in the ground as the above: Chocolate City Beer Washington, DC http://chocolatecitybeer.com/ Black Squirrel Brewing Silver Spring, MD No website yet
Due to rising costs and lack of increased revenue, I had to let go of Beer a few weeks ago. I told him I would like to bring him back at some point, but there's just no funds in the budget to keep him around right now. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, and I wanted to keep him around at least through the holiday season, but we could not. Maybe we will have something for him part-time around the holidays. Times are tough. But it looks like from the above posting that maybe he will be able to get on with somebody else before too long. Thanks for the update!
I too dismissed beer from my staff, somewhat due to economic pressures, but more honestly due to gut pressures. In his place, I have rehired his well-seasoned associate, scotch whiskey on an as-needed contract basis.
