Re: The Mystery of the Interesting DC United news per Goff??

Screw shirt sponsers; what we need is an exclusive DC United craft beer. Denver's Flying Dog brewery of Denver, CO, bought the Frederick Brewing Co. of Frederick, MD, last year. Flying Dog, an absolutely great beer and ale, is now brewed alongside the Wild Goose and Blue Ridge brands. We should press Zach to get Flying Dog to brew a special beer and/or ale just for sale at RFK and eventually Poplar Point. It could be called something like "Barra Brew," or "Golazo Ale", with season ticket holders and supporters groups getting a special discount. Flying Dog is just the company to do something like this, as they were associated with the late gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, aka "Duke" in Doonsbury. And while you BS posters ponder this, go to your local purveyor (I use Rodman's Drug Store on Wisconsin Ave.) and pick up a six-pack of Flying Dog's Tire Bite Golden Ale. It's great! And I love the slogan: "Cut the Leash!"

I would love to see them do something like this. Hell, call it United Ale or something plain like that, use the logo and colors. Hell, Old Dominion could be contacted. This would be awesome!

Old Dominion is now Budweiser so they are already a sponsor.

Word on the street is that A-B fired pretty much the entire Dominion brewery staff (I'm sure they spouted crap about "synergy" when they handed out the pink slips). Wonder if it will soon go the way of Rolling Rock:

And my beer, it's a dud
    All brewed in the mud
Somewhere in the swamps of Jersey.

If we had to have any CO brewed beer - I would go for New Belgium Fat Tire (or any of them).

Fat Tire is excellent. Also Moose Drool, which I get in Montana. But Tire Bite Ale is awesome!

Did AB buy more tha 50%? I heard that Fordham was buying 60% and AB was getting the rest. Did that change?

I would walk 1000 mile for that beer. Unfortunately, New Belgium doesn't distribute it past the Mississippi.

I prefer Trout Slayer, albeit slightly, over Moose Drool.

So the mystery is that DC United fans are the most knowlegeable on beer and all things beer-related, among all supporters in MLS?

51% Fordham, 49% AB...didn't save the brewers, though:

Pretty much all you need to know is that 90:00 Cafe has $2 bottles of Yuengling all day, every day.

So, with Foggy Bottom gone and with all of Old Dominion's various products likely to be A-B-ized, basically there's no real local beer anymore?

    Wonderful.

Capital City Brewing Company... Brew pub only though...

Other than that, pretty much true. Closest actual independent brewing company is probably Dogfishhead in Rehobeth, Delaware... Although I'm sure some random person from Richmond or B-more will come along and point out my failings and how I am not worthy of posting on these threads when I continue to spout lies and inuendos...

Ok, I had a horrible morning and a pretty crappy day, this just makes me depressed. Possibly the best beer I've ever tasted in my life was OD's Oktoberfest sampled directly from the conditioning vat during a tour of the brewery that my brother-in-law and I went on several years ago.

A-B?!? God I just want to puke. Someone club me in the head please. :(

Clay Pipe in Westminster isn't half bad. They do Backfin and Hop-ocolypse.

Getting back to beer for a moment, why shouldn't we embrace the beers brewed by the Frederick Brewing Company, recently purchased by Flying Dog of Denver. The Frederick Brewery brews Wild Goose; Blue Ridge; and now Flying Dog beers and ales, and I think we ought to make sure we hoist one of these three brands to ensure the continued existence of at least one "local" brewery. Frederick is well within the United orbit.

The trouble with Dogfish is that its brews are too "fancy". They always load up their beers with spices. You guys should try Victory instead.

Re: The Mystery of the Interesting DC United news per Goff??

If they do in fact bring back a D1 women's league aligned with MLS, I hope they use the same names as the Men's teams. Maybe throw a "Lady" in front of it at the most, although I suppose with NYRB they'd have to officially be called the Pink Cows. Which brings up an even bigger question: Would that meant they'd lactate strawberry milk too?

It's a travesty that there are so few local breweries in the DC area. Down here in Western North Carolina most bars carry about 6x as many microbrews as they do pisswater (Bud, Coors etc) Off the top of my head there's:
Pisgah Brewing Co. Black Mountain, NC
    Asheville Brewing Co Asheville, NC
    Highland Brewing Co. Asheville, NC
Duck Rabbit Craft Brewing Co Farmville, NC
French Broad Brewing Co. Asheville, NC
    Green Man Brewing. Asheville, NC
    Heinzelmannchen Brewery Sylva, NC
Copper Creek Brewing Athens, GA (not far at all)
    Terrapin Brewing Athens, GA
Sweetwater Brewing Atlanta, GA (about 3 hours)

I've been thinking about bringing a keg up with me for the game, but I haven't heard back from Pisgah Brewing yet (all organic, high gravity...) Does anyone know of a place to get Terrapin up there? The Wake and Bake Oatmeal Stout High Gravity is simply AMAZING.
