I'm available for speechwriting services. BTW, I didn't know Kaval was from Cleveland. So I guess he understands things like team relocations and resurrections and stuff.
Jazzy, when you get the writing gig, I volunteer to be your proofreader. i hate seeing stuff posted with so many typos.
Right. In my mind, Kaval being a sports fan from Cleveland is more important than his being a "soccer guy." It means he "gets it" on a lot of fronts. Being from Cleveland is a pretty good credential. Drew Carey is also from Cleveland, by the way. Another non-soccer guy who gets it.
Dave mentioned to me that he used to go to Quakes games, around the time he was a student I think, and stand with the Casbah. So he may not have been an extreme fan like some of us, but he had more interest in the team than 99% of peninsula residents.

I personally find it anoying that he keeps calling it association football , when everybody else call it either SOCCER or FUTBOL. association football ? That's so book-term
I think it just shows he's been a pointy ball football fan for a long time, so long that he can't cope with using the same name and relying on context. And I don't use pointy ball in derogatory way as I have been a fan since the day Mean Joe Green was drafted.
Man, tough crowd. I don't think he normally uses that term, though I could be mistaken. I think he just used it in this context because this particular piece has a wide historical lens. Sort of a going back to the basics / beginning of soccer in the U.S. and putting the competition in that light.
What struck me about the piece was its lack of energy and enthusiasm. Open Cup, yay. I'm not offended by "association football," but it did confuse me. (I am easily confused, though.) I Liked your comment, K.
Like re-inventing the wheel ? I will like to see from Kaval something like a big step where he become a soccer guy instead of baseball, but sadly everything is pointed that he is and will be (for a long time) a baseball guy.
Why does he have to be one or the other? Seems like he's a smart guy who's learning the game quickly and respects it. Apparently he likes the term association football, so sue him.
It is the term from which the nick-name "soccer" originated. He's demonstrating he has spent some time educating himself on the game.

I never know what to make of these exhibitions. Maybe they are good for exposure , selling some tickets and for getting some players game playing experience against top talent but other than that, I don't think they mean or help the club all that much. What the Quakes need are goals, wins and points in league play!
We could be doing a whole lot worse that this fellow for a club prez. He has a great point about the Open Cup. So, who's going to the match, by the way? If we want the team to care about the Cup, let's start by showing how much we care about it. I personally want it more than anything else right now, especially in light of two facts: 1) Our likelihood of winning MLS Cup right now is going downhill. 2) Seattle has the Cup right now.
I left a comment (via facebook) and for some reason I don't see it there now. Anyways, this is the comment I left: Wow! let see.. Vancouver will play Man.City, Galaxy vrs Real madrid and Man City, Fire vrs Man U, Crew vrs New Castle United, DC vrs Everton and Ajax, New England vrs Man U, NY vrs Paris SG then goes to England and plays Arsenal, KC vrs Newcastle United, Seattle vrs ManU and theTimbers vrs Ajax, C. America and finaly West Brom...yep looks like we are belong to the USL! come on Mr Kaval bring some seriuos contenders if you want this team to have real socer fans!
I left a comment on fcbk to Kaval asking when he was going to sign some forwards? The post then, somehow not surprisingly vanished....
