we need a CB not a winger... I wonder who is on the short list... we had been trying to sign the CB on this Minnesota team we are playing next week during preseason but he got hurt right before deadline day. I was hoping we would give Ampai a little more time and loan him out to Orlando or Tampa Bay or something. Nuts. Oh well. We are pretty set at CAM right now we have the right mix of youth and experience between Baca and Moreno/Khari.
Sometimes, especially with teams you support, you will find a player and become attached to him. I know Ampai isn't our best option at any position really, but i'd love to see him get a run with the first team. he showed glimpses of greatness last year, and i think he has better foot skills than Baca
Here's the latest home game of Buriram United. I heard that Anthony was at the stadium, watching this match. From the report in Thailand, He will get paid at least $5000 per month, and he will join them just before the second half of the season when the transfer market in Thai Premier League is officially re-opened.
on your guys's end (thai fans) have you guys heard if this is a permanent move or a loan one way or the other?
That sounds more like a done rather than loan deal to me. "The key data of his contract: 2.5 years plus option on another year." http://www.thai-fussball.com/en/New...on-contract-with-Buriram-United-item-325.html
oh well, yeah, there is that. well best of luck to him, shame it couldnt work out. Always liked the guy. Time for us to go get Alas then
So I wonder if the Quakes got anything for him, or just released him? Regardless, it does look like his time in San Jose is done - too bad it didn't work out for him, hope he does well in Thailand.
I'm assuming since nothing has been announced by the SJ front office that we did not get any compensation and just released him quietly in the night. The fact that we haven't played him at all this year probably did not help any transfer value he may have had.
To be honest, I would have preferred he is moving to a different club in Thailand, or even stay in the MLS. Although Anthony is from Texas and spent a week in Buriram, I am not sure he really knew what he was doing. Life will not be the same for him anymore. And 2.5 year? He might regret. Initially we all thought of a loan deal, but have been surprised about the long-term deal. If we get the chance, we are going to interview him (if he agrees). We'll let you know guys.
Thanks for the info - can you clarify why you say you would have preferred to see him move to a different club? Also, can you talk about the quality of play in the Thailand league?
Yeah, just based on the few features that the club did on him, Ampai seems to be just about as American as you can be culturally. So it will probably be a culture shock, but hopefully he will see it as a positive learning experience in the end.
With no doubt Buriram is one of the most professional Clubs in Thailand, with quality staff and players. It wouldn't be a problem for a 23-year old American to make cultural experiences in a city like Bangkok, in the North, South and of course eastern seaboard. You can find everything you need for life. But Buriram is in the middle of nowhere, 4,5 hours ride from Bangkok. And there is nothing you can do there. And as we heard, players have to life like in a camp there. Early light off, and you got less time to see your family. Though I don't know whether Anthony's girl will accompany him. Hard to say something about quality of play. Like elsewhere, you can see good games between the top-teams and you can see crap games in 3rd Division. Though we have seen enough player surprisingly making it in the league, others having problems to adopt. Like American Justin Moose. He came early last year and was outstanding for his club. As German, I would compare the level of play with 3-4th Division in Germany. Though style of play is totally different. Lower pace, due to heat, but on a good technical level.
interesting....spoke to my fan relations specialist after the open cup last week asking what was up with ampai as he wasn't even in PA let alone on the 18 and the response was nothing, he's good but its hard to get the playing time even in the reserves with all the CAM's we have on the team now. so now we know something was in the works to move/release him. not sure if doyle would just release him as he's still holding attakora by the b*lls. hopefully the team got some $$$ for him that we can use for some speedy wingers. as for ampai i was a fan and am sorry to see him go. best of luck in thailand!
After not getting much of a look with the Quakes, I believe he did say, "phuket, I am going to Thailand".

@ goodsport, thanks for the Link. Something I expected. Buriram owner always going his way in getting players he want. In the past, one player just wanted to visit a game there, and at half time got shown a contract with the club.
Here's a pretty funny article about Ampai going to Thailand, from an Akron Zips blogger... Ampaipitakwong to Buriram United, Probably
