Tweet from Jeff Carlisle today: Not often that you see a guy wandering around HDC in an #SJEarthquakes jersey. It was none other than Alan Gordon. He's here rehabbing. Props to Gordon for wearing his Quakes gear, but isn't running around the Home Depot Center like detoxing in a bar?

come on everyone, go to mlssoccer.com and vote for Flash's beauty for GOTW!!! Wondo's was nice but Gordon's was nicer...even nicer, TWO nominees this week
I thought all both of the Quakes goals were better than the other ones that were nominated this week. It is hard to pick between the Wondo vs Demerit goal and the Gordon goal, but I'd have to say that Wondo's showed more skill. He had to hold off Demerit, and then wait patiently and make Cannon commit himself. Most players would have gone down at the Demerit contact and maybe earned a PK, but maybe not. Gordon's was a great glancing header off a nice cross, and Gordon had to work hard to beat the defender to the cross, but for me it didn't show quite as much skill as Wondo's.
You make a point about Wondo getting past DeMerrit, but Cannon GAVE him the near post. Gordon scores a goal that goes in on ANY keeper and it was a game winner.
The consensus on the site is that Gordon > Wondo (who capitalized on Joe's mistake, which I would also argue is a too-rare skill.) But now he's out again -- "doubtful" for Saturday -- is anyone else worried that we're seeing an injury pattern?
Lenhart's injury is kind of freakish but Gordon could have rushed his return a bit and re-injured himself... I mean he was reported by Grant Wahl to be hobbling around the Home Depot Center on crutches still rehabbing from off-season surgery just a couple of months ago. Hopefully Sercan is ready to go and the team and Dawkins remember how to play together. There's always Khari... it may not be his best position but he is a professional and gives it his all and has been somewhat effective there in the past when called upon.
Preventable..probably. Freakish...absolutely not. Hamstring seems to be the most common injury we get. Except he injured a completely different muscle than the one he was rehabbing...it's a hamstring, gee.
My point was regarding the crutches... the guy wasn't even using his legs regularly 2 months ago. His hamstrings were out of shape from not being used for 6 months. His hamstrings may have needed more training to build up their strength before playing in a real league game. Players rushing back from injuries too soon and re-injuring themselves is one of the oldest stories in the book. In my opinion, injuries are the next "moneyball" factor that teams can exploit to an advantage if they study it properly, like AC Milan do with the AC Milan lab.
It is also very common for athletes to injure another part of their body after coming back from an injury, as a result of compensating for the injured part. This happens either because the injured part is not 100% strong yet, or the player just subconciously "protects" the injured part and thus puts undue strain on other parts. So even though his previous injuries were to his hip and abs (sports hernia), injurying a hamstring could definitely be related to his previous injuries. It's got to be tempting for Yallop to play one of these guys this week at New York, but if they both sit out to get stronger and prevent a more major injury, I can understand the decision. Gordon unfortunately has a history of being injured, so the team needs to be even more careful with him. Lenhart has not had injuries in the past from what I can tell, so hopefully this is a blip for him.
Say, did anyone notice how much Alan Gordon looked like Abby Wambach (with facial hair of course) during and after that goal against Vancouver? With that band around his head, I had a flashback to WWC I also hope Gordon doesn't repeat last year's performance, i.e., one goal and he's done for the season. fingers crossed.
I think he referenced a "potential career ending" leg injury that he was supposedly able to rehab through in the offseason. I hope this is really "just" a hamstring injury and not anything to do with that.
"Gordon comes through in the clutch" (SJEarthquakes.com - Monday, 5/14/12) (John Todd / ISIPhotos.net) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Just imagine having him, Chris Wondolowski and Steven Lenhart on the field at the same time for most of the game. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Do I remember correctly that Gordon has scored every time he has played for us (or did he not score in one appearance)? Does anyone know how many total minutes he has played? His goals/minutes ratio for us must be great.
He didn't score when he came on as a sub against Seattle earlier this year, but he did get a yellow in that game is I remember correctly.
In 6 games played, Gordon has 3 goals in about 200 minutes with the Quakes (which tops even Wondo for goal scoring rate per minute).
Hopefully Gordon can stay healthy now, when he's been on the field for the Quakes he's been very good. He's not only scored but he's also done a good job of hold up play and passing.
