Re: Barca Snatch Thuram And Zambrotta

I don't agree with this. I think Marquez was moved to the backline because the other options were not very good. Prior to this season Oleguer saw plenty of time back there in the center and wasn't all that spectacular.

I'm not a coach, but I think the key to successful coaching (especially at this level) is to put players in the situation where they can best optimize their talents. Look at was Rijkard has done with Ronaldinho (free role pinching in from the left) and Eto'o. There is little doubt that he has succeeded in designing a system which gets the most out of them. As far as Marquez goes, he is strongest as a defensive midfielder. If we had another adequate center back, I think rafa would be playing just in front of the back 4.

Outstanding signings by Laporta. Zambrotta and Puyol....HOLY CRAP!!!
Thuram...I always thought was a class act. Isn't Thuram a little old though, at 34??

Thuram looked pretty good at the WC and he played well for Juve last year. His signing certainly strengthens the squad.

Zambrotta is the big catch though.

    Next question, I have is...

    Are we done?

I think we may very well be finished bringing players in. We signed Gudjohnson to replace Larsson. Good move. We brought in Zambrotta as a starting wing back and we also strengthened our back line with Thuram. I don't think we need to add anymore players at the moment. I think the club will now try and move some guys out. Maybe they'll find a permanent home for Saviola. I also wouldn't be surprised if Belletti or Sylvinho left the club.

This has been another good summer, IMO.

Yeah I just got some yesterday, fifth row...I figured that if I went to see Real Madrid last year, why not Barca this year?

Are you kidding me??? Go! Even if they don't play aaaaall the stars, what a chance of a lifetime to see the famous FC Barcelona up close.
I'm not a fan of Milan, but I was in awe when I saw them play the Chicago Fire last summer. I truly appreciated the power, speed, and skill of Milan. It was an experience of a lifetime also being surrounded by tons of screaming Italians shouting in Italian!!

I've seen Barca play twice. once at the nou camp (vs. madrid) and two years ago, I flew to NJ to see them play ManU. I guess I'll think about it some more.

I pretty much missed the whole summer and I wonder what is Maxi's situation? Is he still around or did we loan him out?

    Mourinho hates "divers", remember?
Notice Del Horno is no longer there either. :p
Yet his ultimate desire is to take charge of Portugal. Go figure.
