He is a far better captain than Giggs, Evra and Rio.

WTF does Vida do as captain? The only reason you know he is "captain" is because he wears the armband. Not unlike Neville in that regard.

Rio is the only captain material in this side right now. Smalling, Evans and Jones possibly in the future.

Yep, Rio _was_ a great captain. SAF took the captaincy away from him for a reason.

Yep, you are right. Rio having a back injury is definitely the only reason that SAF made Vidic permanent club captain.

Apparently SAF is saying Vidic injury is defo "at least" medial ligament damage. In which case this is likely six weeks minimum for a MCL tear, more if there is cruciate damage.

Funny that Rio lost the armband do to injury, and now he will probably end up playing a lot more matches then Vida.

If it is to be Rio as captain, lets hope he brings his captaincy circa a few years ago and not his captaincy and organisational skills from the 6-1 home defeat to City a few months ago.

Nani should be captain of this sorry group of overrated "footballers".

What on earth are you guys going on about? Vida is our club captain and it will stay that way until his return. An injury isn't going to change that.

We will probably just see captain by committee and rotation based on the starters until he returns. As it should be.

Agree. Still, that doesn't make him a good captain.

Ball sack. That means we will see plenty of Jones at CB for the near future.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a FB arrive in the January window now as well.

    Is out for the season.

Much much worse than the result on Wednesday in a competition where we had little hope to win anyways :mad:

Time for Rio to have his Indian summer for us.

I would argue that losing vidic is the biggest blow we could receive of any player, including the likes of Rooney and nani.

You see, vidic is our bread and better cb against 75% of the dross in the pl, especially this year. There isn't a team who can better him with an aerial bombardment of any type. His absence now puts in jeopardy our usual 3 points against most of the small to mid size clubs. Bolton, wolves, stoke, fulham etc...all become much bigger threats. It's not the likes of city, Chelsea, spurs where he will be missed IMO.

And it's been results against the smaller teams that has been the foundation of our recent league finishes. Given the importance of the league now, it's a big, big loss.

Agreed. Our chances of winning the league took a massive hit.

I'm not bothered really. We can and will keep clean sheets without Nemanja. When he's at his best, we're either playing dross or with our backs to the wall. I'd rather play on the front foot.

I see this not as a loss but an opportunity for Smalling and Jones to get some QT with United's GOAT in that position.

I think our midfielders and possession will benefit from having 2 CBs who don't try to bypass them for no reason with inaccurate long balls or put them under pressure by dribbling too much.
