This is more predictable than Matt's Song draft.

Well, the sweaty nun pick was good.

    I heart Gringo.

This is the very scene that made me rediscover my love of movies a few years back. And the scene that led me to select Band of Outsiders in the first movie draft. Just perfect.

As good as that scene was, I think the way the charriot race was described in the novel is ten times better.

I almsot went with a Truffaut, but I figured this one wouldn't last to the 2nd round.

Catching up and picking a scene. Here we go:

Let me start with something conventional, sentimental and a first-round no-brainer:

Airport scene begins at 1:05 if the first minute technically isn't part of the scene, so be it.

i never made any comments about that 3rd round pick in that draft... i lurked and i kept my mouth closed... i enjoyed that song, still do actually... i own the album... i have dropped it into a set when i was DJing...

but never, ever, would i put that in the top 200 songs of all time... i wouldn't even put that in the top 1000... that was perhaps the craziest pick i have ever seen in a draft, sports or otherwise... if the NE Patriots pick a dead guy, an actual corpse, with their first round pick in an NFL draft, it may come close...

Yeah, but why does everyone preface their condemnation with "I really love that song. I played it when my wife and I entered our wedding reception. But ... "

this may actually be prophetic on your part. after the NFL gets through with the Pats, assuming there is justice afoot, they may not get a draft choice til '15.

If it makes you feel any better, I think it's one of the most hideously annoying, terrible songs ever written. And I respect you less as a person for choosing it.

Not a bad thing at all. Just you don't wake up in the morning and think, "I bet if I made a list of 10 classic movie scenes that I really love, thirty percent of them would involve Sam Shepard." I mean, he's only been in like five movies, period.

For ease of reading/following the draft, I'll post my pick here as a reply to the last post, instead of just edited in my previous post:

I first went to the movie in question in 1960 with the Latin Club at Robert A. Millikan H. S. The showing was at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Admission was $1. I remember that the movie was pretty long. I was a callow youth, but the scene I've picked struck a huge emotional chord.

I regret that there is no video of this scene that doesn't have some kind of gag attached, so I've decided to go to the mat and post the most obviously absurd selection I could find. You know the scene anyway, and if you don't, I've posted a link to other versions.

Guys, I gotta bail on this draft. I am expecting to be very busy most of this week and traveling whenever I'm not. Sorry.

I'd like to include the screening of Fritz Lang's version of the Odyssey that comes directly before this clip as well. I can't find a youtube clip of that though.
