The Guard more than lived up to the hype.

    Brendan Gleeson was fantastic.

I got maybe two paragraphs in, and thought really- I don't really like that squat ginger bloke- its not worth the effort. :D

Maybe if it were on someone with more interest to me I may have read it through. ;)

The Formula 1 Grand Prix starts a new season begining in the Land of Wonder, Down under.

Practice starts tonight for the 'Melbun' GP (10:30PM PST CH607 Speed Directv)
Qualifying tomorrow about the same time
Race day would be late Sat night here (PST) sort your own times out.

Will the cocky Kraut have another wining season or will the 2 cocky Brits run him off. Maybe the cocky Kraut's cocky Ausie teammate will do him from inside. Or will cocky Alonso's Ferrari do 'em all.

Dunno bout Melbourne- but this is the wettest summer we've had in 30 years in Sydney. Only 2 or 3 days got above 30deg which is unheard of.

Anelka scores on his starting debut in China. I don't really care about that, but check out the setup on first goal scored by someone on the Beijing side. :D

Anelka's striking partner is Joel Griffiths who I first saw as a 17 year old running around for Sydney United in the old National Soccer League here in south west Sydney.

I watched a few minutes of an A-league match recording last night, Central Coast vs Adelaide. Couldn't help notice the majority of the stadium was empty.

It begs the question for Grinners & El Cap: if the Aussie league is better than MLS, where were all the fans? ;)

A-League is on par with the MLS- I wouldn't say we're better. Last year was one of the worst years for attendances- this year has been a lot better. The Arry Kewell factor & Brett Emerton coming back has helped no end. We're averaging about 10,000 a game which isn't too bad. Obviously would love to improve that, but you get a lot of Euro snobs down here which compare the A-League to the EPL- which is a totally unfair comparison, and they don't want to come out to watch live games.

10k isn't bad at all. I actually liked the style of play. On attendance, to be fair, we've got our share of Euro snobs here too who stick their nose up to MLS (especially in Boston! We are among the lowest in the league :() so it's a common problem for our leagues.

You don't have to be a Euo snob to want to avoid a Revs game. The team has been poor for a number of years, with no real investment. The game day experience is miserable in a soul less NFL concrete stadium in the exurbs, with a management that actively oppresses supporters groups, and the final straw of Jay Heaps of Shit as manager:D

I've never been to an MLS game, but I would have to think the atmosphere for one in an NFL stadium would be awful.

Well the Flounders get 30000 a game in an NFL stadium with great atmosphere and support to the supporters clubs so it can be good. hell my team plays in a decrepit old stadium made for the NFL and baseball but with great supporters groups and club support we get 17,000 or so a game with a fantastic atmosphere of singing and TiVo.

The Sounders put 30k into Qwest per game?

Damn, that's better than I thought.

They probably have the best home support (and home field advantage because of that shit turf) in the league. Hurts me to say, since I'm a Dynamo fan. We'll see how Houston sounds when the new stadium opens in 5 games though :)

We've got a hell of an atmosphere here at Jeld-Wen for the Timbers - small place, but sold out consistently and in the middle of town. The Timbers Army puts on quite a show.

That's ironic and comical from a fan who supports a team in a condemned former NFL stadium. For those who haven't seen a game there (why would you) it's a bizarre soccer set up at RFK with miserable sight lines. This is of course if memory serves from attending the '06 ECF in DC when I watched my Revs (with Jay Heaps anchoring the defense) eliminate you guys. :D

Besides, how's United's stadium situation these days? Got investment? As soul less as Gilette may be, my stadium is safe both inside (RFK is literally falling down) and outside (you are much less likely to get stabbed in Foxboro). On the field, yeah the Revs have been rebuilding but I can't remember the last time we lost to DC United, home or away. What does that say about United?

Talk all the shit you want LB, your club is the only team in MLS in a worse state than we are.
