Yeah but Owen was a quality striker during his time at Liverpool, where he spent about seven years. Robinho was only really good in Brazil and maybe his first seasons at Milan & City, but never really rose to expectations. I always thought Saviola wasn't really that bad when he was here at Barca, he did well, but maybe wasn't the player that everyone expected. He was never going to deliver the spark at the club that Ronaldinho or Messi did, he was never that type of player.
As I said those players are better in their younger years. Saviola on other hand, it seems that after a while he;s satisfied just to earn his salary, he never scream to anyone when lacking of playing time, he's ok with it... he even retired from NT at only 27. Saviola skill actually is no fluke, he's all time top scorer in U21 World cup with 11 goals in a single tournament. He played major part alongside Tevez in Olympic 2008 victory. In his 3 seasons with Barcelona, he averaged 20 goals per season at the age 20-22. In his second stint with Barcelona he managed to scored 10 goals in 24 matches (many as subs)
He was a very good player at River, Sevilla, and in his first season at Benfica. Doing a pretty decent job with Malaga now as well. He could have had a much better career than what he has had, but it's hard to get why so many criticize him on his past days. He was never that type of player that some expected him to be, so I never understood what people wanted him to do out there when he went out on the pitch.
He has 3 hattricks in 2001 WYC and scored 45 goals in 86 matches for River. He had high scoring ratio for under 20 years old player so its natural when he arrive in Europe, he was expected to deliver something specatular. At the end of the day, he's just great player, not more.
I always liked the rabbit and thought we treated him badly. If anything, what killed him was the amount of money we paid. And the fact that he eventually went to Madrid...
"Messi is a Martian, it is amazing what he has accomplished," Menotti told Radio Xarxa. "There is no discussion, Messi is the best of the three [finalists for the Ballon d'Or]. He deserves the award because of his deep commitment to the team, his solidarity, cautiousness and respectfulness. "When a goal is scored, he runs to hug his team-mates, he will not celebrate on the podium." He then took the time to give his take on one of the other finalists, Cristiano Ronaldo, and commented on a possible move to Barcelona for Brazilian Neymar. "Cristiano Ronaldo is individually significant, but he is a player who plays to win the game individually. When he does not, the team plays with 10 [men]. "If Neymar understands how to play in Barcelona, he has the conditions to be an important player. If a player does not understand that, he cannot play for Barcelona." http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3277...llon-dor-believes-menotti?source=breakingnews
Best of Messi JUST in October. It would be hard to come up with a video with some many great plays for another player over an entire year.
I can't believe Ibrahimovic said this How many times has he [Messi] already won? Two, three? If the jury wants to be just a little more fair, they must give it to someone else this time," the 31-year-old told TF1's Telefoot programme. How can he say that and being fair is not what life is about, it's about who has what and Messi's got it http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3871...does-not-want-to-see-messi-pick-up-ballon-dor also how mnay goals had Ronaldo scored this calander year as I am sure he has scored more than Pele himself this year or am I wrong?
No worries, his bitterness shine brighter than a tin foil in sunlight and the finalist is still.. MESSI, Iniesta, ronaldo.
Saviola was just greedy. That was his issue. But he did do very well at Benfica as you say and is doing well at Malaga.
You see that happen so often that it's no wonder players will go to ground at the slightest contact. You actually get punished by refs for staying on your feet. Just changing the subject, I note that Moanhio (or any of his colleagues on the LPB bench) did not rush to confront the Atletico no.2 during the derby game when there was an exchange of words. Given that Simeone's assistant looks like a night club bouncer I'm not surprised, don't think there was any chance of Moanio repeating his finger in the eye on that bloke.
Exactly. If we want to get diving out of football or lessen it, refs will have to start to whistling clear fouls, even when the player stands up. This is actually perfect example of it, Lahoz put the whistle in his mouth when the foul was made, but didn't whistle it as Leo stayed up.
Next Messi thread should have "No és gran cosa" somehow in the title. The probably said it a hundred times on radio already
Messi injury appearently not that serious, only outside bruise If he miss the next match then it will serve as a short break for him and surely he will play for the remaining 3-4 games
^^^ Yeah, he appeared before the press to promote that ad. Found this image from the event... "No es gran cosa."
That's going to be our mantra on this forum for the rest of the season. Perhaps even the next few years. May reach the status of "irregardless".
That's a lot asked lol, but agreed. Also - of all the funny Messi ads, that new one is one of the best imo.
just reading into the latest comment's by platini about messi surpassing his record makes me think that messi won't win the ballon d'or this year, but maybe next year?
The way the worldwide media keep mentioning Muller's record means Messi is the fav. Not to mention cranky Blatter seems to love Messi humble attitude. Messi also equaled Muller CL record as 4 x top scorer and equal Argentina NT record WITH 12 goals in a year like Batistuta. He surpassed Nistelrooy as #2 all time top scorer in CL. Many footballers even some Brazillian like Ronaldo, Neymar, Denilson etc has favoured Messi.
