The Super League remains at 14 teams, but will reduce to 12 for 2013. This means that the bottom team will be relegated, while those finishing in 11th, 12th and 13th will play off with the 2nd placed team from the Premier League for one place.

From the 2011 League, the bottom two, Pahang and Perlis have been relegated to be replaced by Selangor PKNS and Sarawak. A third change sees an exchange between Harimau Muda A (the Malaysian U-23 team) and what was Young Lions (their Singaporean equivalents). The Singapore team will play as Singapore Lions XII, and will be allowed to play overage and non-Singaporean players.

Both the Kuala Lumpur teams, Kuala Lumpur and KL Felda united are listed as playing at Hang Jebat in Melaka, as opposed to Cheras on the outskirts of KL. Selangor are listed at the national stadium at Bukit Jalil, rather than Shah Alam. One expects that the Harimu Muda side in the Singapore League will also play there, (they were also at Shah Alam last time around). Singapore Lions XII will play at Jelan Besar in Singapore.

    The other stadia are unchanged.
Negeri Sembilan at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Paroi
Perak at Stadium Perak in Ipoh
    Sarawak at Negeri Sarawak, Kuching
    Sabah at Likas, Kota kinabalu
PBDTK/T-Team and Terengganu sharing Sultan Ismail Nasirrudin Shah in Kota Terengganu
    PKNS at Stadium Petaling Jaya
Kelantan at Stadium Muhammed IV in Kata Bharu
Kedah at Darul Aman in Alor Setar
Johor FC at Stadium JCorp in Pasir Gudang

The Premier League gains Pahang and Perlis in place of the promoted teams, and also loses two Pinang teams, the state team of Pinang and SDMS. The keep one team in Pinang through USM.

The new boys are NS Betaria, who despite being a Negeri Sembilan side, appear to be playing at Hang Tuah in Melaka and MBJB, who will share the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Muar with Muar themselves. The Johor FA side seem to be sharing with Johor FC in Pasir Gudang, meaning there is no one playing at the Larkin Stadium (aka Tan Sri Dato Hj Hassan Yunos). It appears that come the end of March, Johor FA and MBJB will play at the Larkin.

It also appears that Sime Darby and ATM have swopped over with Simer Darby now sharing the stadium in Selayang with KL Pos, while the Armed Forces team are in Petaling Jaya, sharing with PKNS.

Harimau Muda B are to play at Bukit Jalil (they too played in Selayang last season)
Pahang's stadium is the Majlis Penbandaran Temerloh, Pahang, (it was Darul Makmar)
Perlis are still at Utama Negeri in Kangar
USM are still at Olahraga at USM (University grounds)
PDRM continue to share at Paroi

The First round FA Cup draw
    http://www.fam.org.my/...emid=143&lang=en
features 32 teams over the weekend of 17-19 February.
Only two grounds not used in the League are featured, these are Stadium UiTM in Shah Alam for UiTM v Lions XII and Mini-Petronas in Bangi for KL Spa v MBJB. Both are 4.15 on the Saturday, but an enterprising visitor could pair either with another game, such as Preach Khan Reach v Pulau Pinang at the National stadium at Bukit Jalil. PKR are from Cambodia, but have been invited into the cup.

I think your summaries are about right, but I must admit I do get rather confused with all these stadium changes.

PKR playing in the FA Cup will be interesting.

    2012 Premier League Update

OK, so we are now 4 rounds into the season, which has gone pretty fast since we are only 11 days into the league campaign!!

So, what have we seen so far....

ATM and Pahang are looking strong at the top of the league, Pahang have 10 points from 12 and ATM have 9 from 9 after their 4th match day was abandoned due t oheavy rain whilst they were leading 2:0.

MP Muar seem to be the team to follow if your looking for goals. They opened up the season with a 7:2 hammering of Perlis, only to be thumped 4:0 by Pos Malaysia days later.

PDRM and Johor FA also look like two teams that will be up there come the end of the season, they seem like hard teams to break down.

It's still early days, but results and league table can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Malaysia_Premier_League

Can anyone explain why Singapore Lions seem to be playing two games a week but everyone else just plays once? There season will be finished in 6 weeks the way they are going. They could win the championship before anyone else has even made week 18 (of 26)!

Goalscorer supreme and national football legend Ghani passes away at age 77

KUALA LUMPUR: Football legend Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Minhat, the ‘Raja Bola’ of Malaysia who passed away yesterday at the age of 77, may well hold the unofficial world record for scoring the most goals in the least number of matches.

In 1963, the prolific Ghani achieved the all-time national record of 106 goals in just 15 games – a phenomenal average of seven goals a match.

During his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, Abdul Ghani played in the inside forward position and was a wily striker feared by opponents.

Ghani was born on Dec 23, 1935 in Kampung Solok, Negri Sembilan, and attended Princess Road School (now Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda) at the age of 10.

Past and present: National striker Safee Sali signing a book during the launch of Super Safee comic recently as Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Minhat looks on. Ghani died at the age of 77 yesterday.

He represented the school, playing barefoot as was the norm then.

His joined St. John’s Institution in Kuala Lumpur two years’ later and starred for the school team.

In 1951, his talent was spotted by local police officers who gave him his first football boots, a rarity then because only professional footballers could afford them.

At the age of 17, Ghani was invited to join the Police Depot team in the Selangor League. He was asked to play on the left wing even though he was right-footed but Ghani used the opportunity to develop his left-foot skills as well.

In 1955, Ghani was picked to play for Selangor in the HMS Malaya Cup. He helped Selangor beat Singapore 2-1 in the final, scoring one of the two goals.

Shortly after, he was called up by national coach Neoh Boon Hean to represent Malaya in a friendly against Cambodia.

His first appearance for the national team was an impressive one as Ghani scored an amazing seven goals to help Malaya whip Cambodia 9-2.

The following year, he scored his first goal in the inaugural 1957 Merdeka Tournament, held on the eve of Independence Day, with an amazing 40-metre screamer against Vietnam but his efforts failed to land the trophy as Hong Kong emerged champions.

Ghani overcame his disappointment the following year when he helped the national team win the tournament ahead of Hong Kong and Indonesia. Malaya retained the trophy in 1959, beating Indonesia 2-1 in the final, with Ghani playing a key role in the success.

As his reputation grew, Ghani, who played for the nation from 1956-63, was bestowed the title ‘Raja Bola’ by the FA of Selangor for his brilliant performances.

His career high achievement came when Malaya won the bronze medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. Ghani scored all four goals in the 4-1 win over South Vietnam.

He continued to play for Selangor alongside M. Chandran, Stanley Gabrielle, Robert Choe and Arthur Koh over the years as the Red Giants ruled rampant over the game.

Ghani was also sent abroad for training and had stints with clubs in England (West Ham United, Arsenal, Spurs), Wales (Cardiff City) and Germany (Eintracht Frankfurt) in 1962.

In 1967, Ghani helped Selangor qualify for the inaugural Asian Club Championship. They made it to the final after beating Tungsten Mining FC of South Korea, thanks to a goal from Ghani, but Selangor then lost 2-1 to Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Ghani retired as a player in style by scoring all eight goals in Selangor’s thumping 8-1 win over Pahang in the 1968 Malaysia Cup final.

He ended his career with an excellent record of over 100 goals for the country and more than 300 for Selangor.

Ghani also made a successful transition to coaching with Selangor and the national team (1971-76) after earning his coaching licence from FIFA in 1969. As coach, he led Selangor to the Malaysia Cup title in 1971, 1972 and 1984.

For his contributions to the nation and football, in particular, Ghani was bestowed the Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM), which carries the title Tan Sri, by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah in June.

Selangor Selection Beat Singapore Selection 3-1

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 (Bernama) - Selangor Selection ended a drought of three years by lifting the 11th Sultan of Selangor Cup after beating Singapore Selection 3-1 at Shah Alam Stadium Saturday night.

The last time Selangor Selection won the cup was in 2005 after beating Singapore Slection 3-1 at the same venue.

Singapore first opened scoring when Aleksandar Duric beat Selangor goalkeeper Norazlan Razali in the 23rd minute.

Stung by the goal, Selangor reshuffled the frontline and were rewarded when skipper Safiq Rahim equalised in the 32nd minute.

Selangor got the second goal when import player Bosko Balaban scored in the 54th minute.

Mohd Rozaimi Abdul Rahman added to Singapore's misery when he scored Selangor's third goal in the 88th minute.

Soldiers return from Singapore with precious away goal

    Posted on October 6, 2012

    By ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA : Premier League champions Armed Forces returned home from Singapore with a valuable away goal after holding Lions XII to a 1-1 draw in the Malaysia Cup semi-finals, first-leg tie at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Marlon Alex James silenced the home crowd with a beautifully-taken goal in the 55th minute before Safuwan Baharuddin turned super sub for the Singaporean side by notching the equaliser in the 80th minute.

But James’ goal yesterday was simply sublime. K. Reuben sent a through ball and the St Vincent and Grenadines striker timed his run to perfection, beating his marker Baihakki Khaizan before placing the ball past the diving Lions goalkeeper Mohd Izwan Mahbud. But the Lions fought back and were rewarded when Safuwan nodded into an open goal from Isa Halim’s freekick just 10 minutes from time.

It was poor defending by Forces, who allowed Safuwan to rise unchallenged and nod the ball past goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Harun from close range.

I’ll race you to that : Lions XII’s Baihakki Khaizan (left) tussling for the ball with Armed Forces’ Marlon Alex James during their Malaysia Cup semi-final first-leg match yesterday. — ABDUL RAHMAN EMBONG / The Star.

The home team dominated the proceedings from the opening whistle, with skipper Shahril Ishak, Shahdan Sulaiman and Agu Casmir coming close a few times. Forces failed to keep possession as they struggled to get to grips with the artificial pitch, and looked very ordinary.

Nothing went right for coach B. Sathianathan’s men as they barely threatened the Lions XII goal in the first-half. The Premier League champions came with the same artillery that had knocked the stuffings out of defending champions Negri Sembilan in the quarter-finals. But surprisingly, their attacking flair was missing last night.

Even the reliable engine room, led by Bruno Martelotto, Rezal Zambery Yahaya and nippy flankers Christie Jayaseelan and Mohd Fitri Omar, could not do much while forwards James and Hairuddin Omar had a quiet game.

James had two looks at goal – converting the first in the 55th minute and squandering the other with only Lions goalkeeper Mohd Izwan to beat in the 73rd minute.

Forces hold the advantage going into the return-leg match at the Selayang Stadium on Thursday. A goalless draw will be sufficient as Forces have an away goal.
