I'd prefer no animals in MLS team names or crests, but aside from missing the name that's certainly a million fold improvement over the current disaster of a crest they have, which looks like it was designed by a ten year old with crayons...
That is miles above what Orlando currently has. I agree, replace the star with OC or the year the club was formed and call it a day.
This is what I had in mind. Replaced the star with the sun to represent "Florida Sunshine" and added the banner at the bottom. Not quite sure if I like the "2015" in the banner or if it would have been better to have used "SC" instead.
This is a start. Clean up the lions so the face is more definitive. Seems a bit sloppy, but the old world lions are certainly the way to go.
^ Exactly the style I was going for. Love the first pic where it looks like the lion is made of fire.
That gothic-ish enflamed direction is much better than the others. With apologies to SteveUSSF_ref8, that style (the lion head facing left; banner outside and beneath crest; the sun in upper left corner) is exactly the kind I hope we don't see. It strikes me as too close to a cartoon-type treatment. There are several MLS crests that are still a bit too close to arena football league-style oversimplicity and garishness. I'm hoping OC's first MLS crest will be among the best.
I'd much prefer this sort of lion graphic. (The lion, not the rest of this; not referring to the shape or composition or color, etc.). .
The team has blanked out its icons and banners on both Twitter and Facebook. They've already said the MLS logo announcement will take place this month. So it may be imminent. Why does it have to be old world? Didn't our forefathers leave Europe to get away from the European way of doing things? Let's do this our way. I liked that logo when it first started circulating, and I wouldn't mind seeing something similar. It's clean, simple and to the point.
Larry Ridley@mrlarryridley 1h Tuesday @OrlandoCitySC unveils new #MLS logo, told 3-headed lion is gone, new logo has 1 lion head, purple still color #Orlando
Well that's a good first step. Hopefully this one doesn't look like it was created by a fourteen year old kid with crayons.
Fwiw, a somewhat (for lack of a better term) "gothic" lion imagery doesn't necessarily also have to connote Europe, the Old World, etc. And yes, I admit the whole realm of "goth"-anything does completely derive from Medieval Europe, and more specifically Middle Ages-era Germany, but still. The club's first MLS-era crest doesn't automatically have to swing fully the opposite direction and look like something from the XFL or arena yardlineball. It's all moot I guess, for three-plus years now the club have done almost everything at a high level of excellence. They're not about to lay a wet fart when it comes to one of the most important branding elements of the entire entity and its future.
