is riquelme the best passer in the football history? to me, yes, without doubt. at whatever angle, he always manage to pass to somebody else, awesome his passing is more difficult to do, compare to xavi (barca)
I am tired of listening to the amargura of the people who hate Roman and hate Boca. This morning I got with an argument with a friend from Independiente. He grudgingly admits that Riquelme is playing well, but he keeps insisting that he's a cancer on a team, that he's not a good teammate. What Bullshit! Then I read comments like this: http://www.ole.com.ar/boca-juniors/futbol/Roman-dice-acompane-jugada-final_0_719928248.html This from Sanchez Miño. But I remember similar comments from other players. It's not a coincidence that Boca's young players like Sanchez Miño are playing so well, and that Boca is doing so well. I give credit to Falcioni, but the mentoring and influence of Román has a lot to do with it. He is a great leader in addition to being a great player and he's a great influence in the dressing room as well as on the field, and anybody who says otherwise is a bitter amargo.
You nailed it ASF. Look at the number of young players that have referred to him as a mentor, not to mention the veterans that come to Boca and look at and listen to him.
I'd be counting for a long time if I counted the number of times I've seen Roman mentoring younsters during games or walking off the field at half-time. At various occasions, I've seen counceling Banega, Mouche, Datolo, Cardozo, Ledesma, Messi, Araujo, Sanchez Mino, etc... That's just during the intense situations of games. I can't imagine how much he does that during training or just hanging out. If that's being a bad teammate, I'll take it on any team of mine. At the end of the day, Roman's personality rubs many people the wrong way. For me, the things people hate the most are the things that I admire most about him. He is who he is and does not pretend to be any thing else. He is uncompromising, says what he means and means what he says. He won't be buddy/buddy with every person on a team, but I think he recognizes and respects the contributions of every person and looks to forge working relationships with them. Can he be a bit of a primadona? Sure. But having earned idol status, he's entitled to it. If you think to make him what you want him to be, I think that's where the problems start. But for my money, I'd take his temperament over just about any other athlete. Oh, and he gets the job done!
What would be a more fitting gift than to win this match and have Belgrano and Independiente come up huge. Feliz Cumple to probably our biggest idol of the past decade and definitely the most underrated player in the world!
