Looks like Xoey Allen is out for the season (or will be soon) http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/18/liverpool-joe-allen-sidelined?CMP=twt_gu
Probably a good idea get it done now and be ready for pre-season training in the summer. It's not like we might win something
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/rodgers-on-injuries-and-joe-s-pain Brendan Rodgers has reported no fresh injury worries after the international break - and has revealed that one of his long-term absentees could return before the end of the season. Both Jamie Carragher and Pepe Reina are now back in full training, meaning only Joe Allen (shoulder), Martin Kelly (knee) and Fabio Borini (shoulder) remain in the treatment room. In an update for Liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers revealed just how much pain Allen has been playing through in recent months before undergoing surgery last week. While the Welshman won't kick a ball again this season, the boss hopes to have Kelly back in training at the start of May. He said: "Joe has had his operation and it went well. "It's interesting because when it was looked at, the surgeon said that if you touched it with your thumb you would have broken the shoulder. "So that just shows you how flimsy it was and also how much pain he was in for a period of time. But thankfully that went well and he has started his rehabilitation. "It will unfortunately keep him out for the rest of the season. "Martin may well be back towards the beginning of May but that will be to join training. I'm not sure if he's going to be available to play this season. "The feeling with him and Fabio was that they would probably miss a big part of the season." On the fitness of the rest of his squad after the internationals, Rodgers added: "Everyone has returned fit and ready. "A lot of the players who have been on international duty have come back and the medical team has looked at them and everyone is fine. "There are a couple of little niggles here and there but nothing that's going to keep anyone out. "Pepe Reina and Jamie Carragher are back in training. Lucas Leiva couldn't start against Southampton because he had an injury - he didn't train a lot of the week. "But everyone is fighting fit and fresh and we're really looking forward to the weekend."
Kind of infuriating, that. If Allen was in so much pain, why the hell was he playing, and not Henderson, against Southampton?
i wonder if a part of it is that transfer time is coming around soon, and rodgers felt the need to try to prove his last summer window was a success. allen was his key signing, probably the one he had to sell to the owners the hardest on and he hasn't worked out, yet. i can't help but wonder if that was part of it, because on merit and form allen certainly didn't deserve to play over henderson.
I think you've hit the nail on the head, there. We spent money, good money at that, on Allen when Henderson and, to a certain extent, Shelvey, were already available. Not only that, but Swansea was seemingly able to replace him with two excellent players for a fraction of what we paid for him . I think Allen is a fine player, and now that we have all the information to hand, who has simply been badly managed. It's not his fault that he was being played through a serious injury but there surely is an argument about how much we're paying for players and how much value they bring to the club. And, of course, there is that elephant in the room-- Andy Carroll.
In fairness he did come on against Spurs when we 2-1 down and contributed to the win and played well in his start against Wigan. The problem wasnt Allen but the lack of support for the middle 2. I do agree that he has been a little desperate to get Allen to perform though, he brought him on when we were comfortably winning Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea we failed to add to the 13 goals in the 70 minutes he was on the pitch.
Well, I hope Allen come back and regains the form which he showed in the opening first third of the season. Not only that but add more goals to his game.

crap! I knew it looked bad at the time - but didn't realize how bad. Kind of like Lucas's first injury
