At least after May of this year.

The 10 year, $70,000,000 naming rights that Home Depot had with AEG will expire and not be renewed.

AEG is apparently already in the process of finalizing a new sponsor.

Any guesses as to how much the naming rights will go for now? If they got $7 million a year 10 years ago while MLS was un much less stable ground, I'd have to guess it should be a more lucrative deal.

Can't decide if I hope it's something decent-sounding or something utterly humiliating.

I would think it would be for less because that was a pretty overpriced deal in the first place compared to a lot of other stadium naming rights deals.

I hope it's Craftsman. Then we can still call it The Tool Shed.

Maybe, but no other stadium can market itself as the home of the USMNT or the current MLS champions. And that's not even including the marketability of players like Donovan, Gonzalez, and Keane for whatever product the stadium rights owner sells.

There are also a ton of other events that use the stadium (or the track facilities, tennis stadium, velodrome, practice facilities, etc.

Remember that the original deal was so high because Home Depot put into the contract that when building the complex, that they spend a certain $ value at Home Depot for supplies. If memory serves I think it was $30m that AEG had to spend at Home Depot.

Back then it made sense because they still had to spend that money some where so Home Depot was as good as any.

However that expense flowing from AEG to Home Depot allowed Home Depot to sign what seemed like a very high contract at the time.

What is the average MLS stadium getting currently?

It'll probably be as high as the highest current deal at least , if not more.

It's worth noting HDC isn't just the soccer stadium. It's the tennis venues, track, training venues and everything else on a large property.

This is true. However from a sponsorship point of view (eyeballs viewing on TV, and people visiting the HDC), the soccer stadium makes up a huge percentage of the overall total.

And the soccer stadium hosts a TON of other events besides LAG and Chivas, as most of you probably know. It gets a massive amount of exposure during the Summer X-Games and there's a big rugby festival this summer as well.

I thought they did rally racing there, but maybe not anymore. I'll be honest, I haven't watched a hell of a lot recently, not really my cup of tea.

Interesting, a 3-day rugby sevens tournament. PPL park seems to host the college rugby sevens tournament each year.

I didn't recognize the "Grand Prix" name/brand and wondered how it was related to the IRB Sevens World Series, the one that has a stop in Vegas. Turns out, there's a conflict between the two...apparently some of the national teams such as the All Blacks, Fiji, and even the US have exclusive contracts with the Sevens World Series. So those countries will send B teams or something. Or maybe that's old news.

Fine. Official training site of the USMNT. Either way, they can pimp out quite a variety of soccer and sport events.

Rally racing has been over at the Coliseum for a while, though last year I think they did it on the streets in front of LA Live.

My guess is much less than their current contract per year.
