I saw the Hobbit with my two oldest son's over the holidays. Based on the trailers and understanding the Hobbit was going to be three movie, I went to the movie with some trepidation. We loved the movie. All of us can't wait until the second movie... Similar to the first movie in the LOTR, he sets a good foundation for the other two movie to build upon. While I can understand the interpretation strays from the core of the book, I have no problem with the straying. I have always enjoyed the Hobbit, but I never found the book as compeling as the LOTR. It was a simple book, but I don't want to see a simple movie. We didn't see it in 3D, but the clarity of the scenes were breathtaking and the changes made on Golum are incredible. Martin Freeman as Bilbo is perfect! I always felt that no one could compare to Ian Holm, but Martin did it! Still, I will have to see how the next two movie take us through the journey of Bilbo and the Dwarves before making any final judgements...
