some one should do a thread for the great italian players of the 80's.

and i was just wondering, dino zoff, tarcisio burgnich and enzo bearzot, there are italian legends, but there last names do not sound italian. does anybody know if they really are italian or at least have some italian blood cause it's been on mind mind for a while now.

They come from Friuli Venezia Giulia. In that region, their names end in consonants. In Veneto, it's a similar thing. There are surnames that end with an "n" or an "l".

baresi and baggio get my vote(s)

no one made defending and playing out from the back look easier than baresi. while row z of the stand will do for many modern day defenders, baresi seemed unwilling to tackle unless he was certain to come out with the ball.

baggio was all class and a role model to boot. was a one man team on many occasions and was cast aside all too quickly when del pierro emerged.

    this in every word......

also signalled the end of the days of players being footballers first and athletes second. I don't say that just because he was smaller
