JONES WILL NOT BE ON THE GOLD CUP TEAM he has been starting on the USMNT so y r u people putting him on the GC roster ? if the Gold Cup games r during the World Cup Hex Qualifying games do we see any "A" players on the GC team or roster ? imo, the GC roster should have the "B" players starting with our "C" players on the bench the question is who are the "B" players ? do they include anyone who is on the "A" team, on the bench and on the roster for the WC Hex games ?
Yeah. Since there is a two month break from WCQ where the Gold Cup is played, A-Team bench players should get a chance to start and show a little bit more. In that group is probably Shea, Gatt, Guzan, Agudelo, Boyd, Corona, maybe Mix....basically the U23 guys and players who distinguish themselves between now and then as possible A-Team players..maybe Brooks, Pontius and some others. Also, the reason this list is so hard is that more than a couple of people on Gold Cup projections now will be on the A-Team by the time the Gold Cup actually happens. Gonzalez is the big one of that group.
Thailand: The previous story that announced it, has been scrubbed as it may have been a premature announcement. http://sports.yahoo.com/iptac-0024E...-coach-not-heard-possible-062100621--sow.html
You can't have a guy with 0 caps as your captain. I also don't think Jones will be starting by the time the Gold Cup comes around. I don't see how JK can continue with both Danny Williams and Jermaine Jones in the same lineup, neither offers anything offensively. I think Jones will be a fringe starter for the first team at that point, and JK will want to get him some games to boost his confidence. What better way to do that than to make him the captain.
It's just not likely that Jones somehow slips from the first team. Klinsmann has said that Jones is a team leader, and he clearly places him in the 'regulars' tier of player with Dempsey, Howard, etc. Unless Jones gets hurt or has a falling out with the coach, he will be a first team starter during every important game. That's not my wish for the team, that's how Klinsmann sees things.
I think Jones is still a better 6 than Danny Williams but I don't know if he'll be that in 2014. JJ will most likely captain the GC squad if it's a "b" team. I'd like to see most of our u23 team that failed to qualify but throw in the players that didnt make it (Jozy, Gatt, Chandler, Williams, ...) and balance it with a few seniors such as JJ.
There's a reason he had the most minutes (at least going up to the last 2 sets of games) of anyone on the usmnt in 2012. When I watched the team in Columbus I could really see how big of a role Jones had in directing our team.
Goalkeepers: Nick Rimando (Salt Lake) Sean Johnso0n (Chicago) Bernabe Magana (UNAM, Mexico) Random pick but he's a promising young goalie Defenders John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin, Germay) Greg Garza (Tijuana, Mexico) Eric Lichaj (Aston VIlla) Ryan Miller (Halmstads BK, Sweden) Omar Gonzales (LA Galaxy) Steven Beitashour (San Jose) Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City) Matt Besler (Sporting KC) Mids Joe Corona (Tijuana) Josh Gatt (Molde, Norway) Robbie Rogers (Stevenage,England) Alejandro Bedoya (Helsingborgs, Sweden) Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg, Norway) Alejandro Guido (Tijuana) Benny Feilhaber (New Engalnd) Brek Shea (FC Dallas) Alfredo Morales (Hertha Berlin) Forwards Chris Wondolowski (San Jose) Charlie Davies (Randers FC, Denmark) Alan Gordon (San Jose) Juan Agudelo (Chivas USA) Aron Johannson (AGF, Denmark) If he's interested.
I'm most eager to see Mikkel Diskerud get an extended look for the U.S.. Josh Gatt as well should have a chance. Hopefully by then, Brek Shea will have recovered and gotten some minutes.
I think Klinsmann pushes for as many first teamers as possible and I hope he does. Since we're missing out on the Confederation's Cup, this will be the best opportunity as a sort of dry run for the world cup. And a year out, we won't have anywhere near 23 second tier guys with any realistic shot at getting on the squad for Brazil. This tournament should be about prepping the team for Brazil, perhaps uncovering a few borderline gems who have looked ready to step up, and winning. Trotting out 23 second teamers and a bench full of no hopers doesn't accomplish any of that.
In general, I think your analysis and rosters are very thoughtful and comprehensive. Yet, I just don't see Jones, Boca, and Cherundolo all sliding to the Gold Cup squad and out of the Hex squad. Those three will stick with the Hex team. Also, I'd love for Gonzo to knock Goodson to the Gold Cup team, but I doubt that happens so quickly. Hex: --------------Altidore---Dempsey---Donovan----------- ----------------------Bradley-------Jones------------------ ----------------------------Williams----------------------- Johnson-------------------------------------------Cherundolo ----------------(C) Bocanegra---------Cameron------------- -----------------------------Howard----------------------- Bench: Rimando, Goodson, Parkhurst, Chandler, Edu, Zusi, Gatt, Johnson, Gomez ***************** Gold: ----------------Pontius---Boyd---Agudelo------------- -------------------Kljestan----Corona------------------ -------------------------Beckerman---------------------- Castillo-------------------------------------------Lichaj ---------------Gonzalez--------Besler------------------- ------------------------(C) Guzan------------------------ Bench: Johnson, Brooks, Ream, Spector, Torres, Bedoya, Diskerud, O' Brien, DeLeon, Wondolowski
I doubt Klinsy will agree with me either. But, I look at the Hex roster and the Gold Cup roster and I see the need to mix things up some. I do not see the point in not doing it. Our young attackers will need some experience and our upcoming defenders would benefit having some of the pressure taken off by some of the more experienced guys.
screw that. I'd rather have him at the Gold Cup unless by some chance we all of a sudden have all these other center backs emerge on the scene. It will provide him more experience, it will be better for his integration in the USMNT set-up, and it will cap-tie him to us.
He might be too good for the US U20 team, tbh I rather see him stay with Hertha if they get promoted back to the Bundesliga so he won't miss any time on training camp
Gooch had an outstanding game today. Jermaine Jones had a nice game as well. It may be time to take another look at Gooch.
I think Malaga already qualified for the next round so that's why he got the start. Regardless, LOVE that he got some playing time. Such a cool guy. Lord knows we need all the CBs we can get.

As much as I personally would like to see Adu at GC2013, you would really need 2 ball winning CM behind Freddy. I think in a U23-themed GC squad you would see a 4-2-3-1 with Williams/Morales/Okugo and Mix behind Freddy with Boyd up top or a 4-3-1-2 with Williams, Morales/Sacha behind Freddy with Boyd and Agudelo up top. 4-2-3-1 -------------Williams--Okugo--------- ---Gatt------------Adu----------Shea--- --------------------Boyd--------------- 4-3-1-2 ----------------Okugo------------ ------Williams-------Mix-------- ------------------Adu------------- -------------Boyd----Agudelo------
