I told people to stop the U-S-A chant, not because I think it's stupid at an MLS game (it is) but because the American anthem started right after the Canadian one did. Edit: Noticed Matty said the same.
I thought I'd throw my $.02 before this bloodbath-war of the words really kicks off. I think whenever the Revs play a team from outside the USA, that chant is valid. I think as long as we're doing the hosers thing we can be doing some patriotic stuff, not because the players on one team are from a certain country, but because a US team is playing a non-US team. But, feel free to chant whatever you want, all that makes a chant is more than 1 person yelling something anyway. I'll step back and let RevsLiverpool and JMMUSA8 handle it from here
First, I didn't know the context, so I agree you don't chant it during the nat'l anthem. Secondly, I don't have anything against JMM or anybody else, was just expressing an opinion that ironic chants are sometimes funny. But the majority has spoken against it so I'll shut up.
Yah, I didn't have the context on the national anthem before, but now I agree, no chanting during national anthems
I agree about the national anthem, this was during game play AND a lull in the songs of the SGs. One team has an American flag on their sleeve. The other has a Canadian flag. The same chants are said at Bruins/Canadiens games and 98% of the Bruins roster is from Canada. Shushing people in the Fort for starting a chant during a silence in the supporters songs is just stupid. Telling a little kid (who sits above the supporters) to not to bring his drum is just stupid. Lighten up.
Sorry, I probably have put some more insight into the context of the chant. The U-S-A chants were during the game. I don't find them ironic either. I think there is a time and place for USA chants (like at a USA game). Also, the USA chants were interrupting chants that were already started by the capo. As far as ironic chants, I love them if they can be done by the whole group. Now a dos a cero against Chivas is hilarious. They are owned by a Mexican owner who stated pretty boldly that he'd dominate MLS with all hispanic players. I just think that USA chants don't belong in a MLS match. And to have one interrupt an exisiting chant caused me to shush it.
As I just said, one of the U-S-A chants had interrupted a chant that was already going on. Whatever, I'm done with this, it's not important in the grand scheme of things. I'm not trying to pick on the kid, I don't know much about him other then what's been said on here. However getting feedback from the boards and people in the lot, there was issues with those who had drums. Perhaps I shouldn't have used him to make my point but the point still needs to be made. Those with drums needs to accept some responsibility of keeping everyone on the same pace. It's up to them to get the people immediately around them to sing at the same pace. A bad drummer will throw off a chant, and this has been an issue for quite some time. If you can't drum, perhaps you should take lessons, leave it at home, or give it to someone who can.
Alright, getting this back on topic. I thought the scarves up and flags looked fantastic. That being said, let's bring more!
Question: What was the deal with the hymnal sheets that were distributed as you walked in? Did the FO get that done? Seemed like some of the stuff was followed and some stuff was never discussed (the Go....Seatt-Revs). Whatever the case I'm pretty positive seeming the progress being made here. The fact that the FO allowed/produced those hymnal sheets shows the morgue that the support a better fan experience.
I was a little late getting into the game, I thought Shanary said the FO hadn't printed up the "hymnal sheets" and I didn't see anyone around me with one. Did people print up their own, I know the SGs were suggesting that on Facebook.
BTW, for the first time doing it, the amount of people that held up their scarf on the sidelines looked great too.
I'm talking about the 6x9 sheet not the 8.5x11. I did see a fair amount of the home printed ones as well.
That, I want to see. I want to see you tell this kid not to bring his drum because he's ruining everything. And as I said, the kid is pretty is pretty good at it. At times, if he was off, he would pick up on it either from me (cowbell) or the crowd/drums down front, and alter his pace to match.
Unfortunately I was unable to make the game. All I can say in regards to this thread is that the fort looked better than ever on the Revs TV broadcast. Another good thing is that they pretty much made the broadcast into a little advertisement for the Fort, making references to it the entire match. This can only help to bring in some active newcomers, which is the #1 thing the Fort needs at this point.
I believe that little kid is related to Ray in some way, or at least comes with him? Let those two be the ONLY drummers then. Ray's bass drum is the loudest in the Fort and probably should be the one to take as "master drum". That said, the million other drums aren't needed. I'm not going to say Summer's drum or Monty's drum or Ray's drum or whatever, because that makes it personal. I DON'T CARE WHO IS DRUMMING!!!!! What matters to me is that we have one, at most two, drummers in the Fort.
I have always agreed 100% with this. Drums are so over-rated and way overused in the Fort. Even 3 throughout the Fort is too many I believe. One or two loud drums used properly and with good coordination with everyone else is great. They should also be 10-20 rows back, they are useless in the front rows.
