Dont be mad because Paraguay has been horrible in Copa America by being USA-lite(Bunker for 90% of the game)

Lmao all of this coming from a Perucho out of all people.

Peru bunkers every single time they play against Paraguay, even in Lima and now you got the balls to talk about other teams bunkering.

Did you forget already how you beat Colombia in this cup?

And did you forget how you beat fcking Venezuela? Im not mistaken first time Venezuela goes to Penalty kicks and Paraguay hasnt lost one since 1999, Villar has been carrying the team.

How Venezuela was owning Paraguay in the ET was lol worthy..

Of course part of the blame goes to Tata by putting an injured Santa Cruz to the field....

Markarián is the guy who invented the "Paraguayan Catenaccio" back in the 80s, with the Olimpia. He took that club from relegation to the championship, with a strong emphasis on defending as a team.

Then he moved to the Paraguayan NT Sub-23 and later to the NT. Always using the same technique, putting defense as the first priority, in part due to a dearth of attacking players with the Sub-23. They made it to 5th place in the Olympic Games of 1992.

That team had the young players that later became the "Golden Generation" from the late 90s, the guys who took France into extra time in the World Cup. There were many more top quality defenders than attackers, so the coaches that followed, in particular Carpegiani, followed the Markarian school of thought: defend, defend, defend, and only when you feel very safe, try to attack.

Markarian, who's a true football lover, has said he intends to have his biggest success with Peru. I think he says that because, unlike the Paraguayan system, that produced mainly good defenders at the time he was in charge in the 90s, now Peru is producing good players in all positions, which means he's trying to be more offensive than with other teams he's managed.

You can see this in the way he's managed the Peruvian team this cup. Still, the emphasis is on defending (which is very good, a good defense is a must in order to have a good attack, since the moves are made from the back forward --a team with a good defense and a bad attack can still make it far, a team with a poor defense and a strong attack is likely to go home first, ask Argentina), but the way he's working with Peru, it seems to me he's trying to find the perfect midfield combination to guarantee not just solid defending, but also to control possession.

Farfan was key in that. In the friendlies, Farfan was the guy who centralized possession in midfield, the guy who broke through enemy lines based on speed and control. Losing Pizarro or even Ramirez wasn't much of a blow. But losing Farfan at the last minute threw Markarian schemes out the window.

That he managed to get 3rd place shows how intelligent the man is, that he could create a Plan B a few days before the tournament.

    Lineup for today

Justo Villar; Iván Piris, Paulo da Silva, Darío Verón y Elvis Marecos; Enrique Vera, Néstor Ortigoza, Víctor Cáceres y Cristian Riveros; Nelson Haedo Valdez y Pablo Zeballos

Don't think we'l win this, Martino's hard on for Ortigoza and Caceres is gonna cost us, he starts them over our best midfielder Estigarribia. All I can see are pelotazos with those 2 instead of accurate passing.

I just hope they atleast play a decent game.

    Game over, man. Game over.

Paraguay is not a team to come back from behind.

Matter of fact, if they go up to try to tie it, it could end very badly for them: 3-0 to Uruguay or worse.

Actually, the hope for Paraguay is if Uruguay gets a couple of reds. Which is not out of the realm of possibility, frankly.

Good now Martino can gtfo and certain people here can stop whining.

Paraguay is lucky to be down by only a goal. I have never seen such a blatant hand ball not called for a PK in the opening minutes. He may not have actually touched to ball with his hand but he was practically hugging it with his arms!

Dont jynx it, I dont want Martino to get lucky again.

A goleada for Uruguay is the best scenario here, I want Martino gone.

Forlan, finally! What better way to end your drought than to score in the final.

That's a problem with mainly defensive teams. Once they go behind by one, they go behind by ten. It's more than over.

PS: I think Suarez is the player of the tournament. And today, Ortigoza is making the point that he may be the Pavon of the Final.

I told you Ortigoza is shit meanwhile Estigirribia who's been Paraguay's best player is riding the bench, hope Martino gets pelted with rocks when he goes back to Paraguay.

Suarez doesn't get enough respect, the guy is deadly. This game should be 4-0, not 2-0 at hafltime. If Paraguay deosn't figure out a way to get the attack going, Uruguy could score 3 more in the next half.

Fantastic Uruguay, but I fear they might get a red in the 2nd half
