At 1/32 Cherokee, she's about as Cherokee as the current chief (?), no?

Correct. Bill John Baker, recently elected Cherokee Nation Chief is 1/32 as well.

Each tribe sets it's own citizenship requirements. Some as much as a minimum 1/8, or in the case of the Five Civilized Tribes, no quantum, so essentially "just one drop". The problem for most people is proving that ancestor that get them into the 1/16 - 1/32 - 1/64 - 1/128 - 1/256 slot since many Indians refused to get on the Dawes Rolls for various reasons, most of which involved preservation of civil rights and to prevent their lands from being seized and redistributed from them, usually to non-Indian settlers or corporations such as those good old railroads or mining/timber interests

It's one of those right wing bubble things -- apparently, at some point in the past, Elizabeth Warren claimed Native American ancestry on a faculty application, and the right wing is claiming that this means that all of her work since then is tainted. I think there is a pretty high correlation between people who believe this and people who think that Obama is a socialist who personally oversees the death panels.

Claiming Native American ancestry with 1/32nd background is kinda cheesy. But such is the system. I knew a Brazilian girl back in the day. Of 100% Portuguese descent, from a wealthy, college-educated family. She rode the "Hispanic" background tag into Ivy League acceptance. She cheerfully admitted that to be pure bullcrap but it was useful bullcrap and she didn't make up the rules. Fair enough.

Of course Warren might not have claimed such ancestry hoping to get ahead, this could be an attempted right-wing sliming. Always possible.

Professor Warren was actively recruited by HLS to join the faculty. She was a visiting professor initially while still employed by Penn and consistently got rave reviews in student evaluations. And prior to her joining the HLS faculty she was already considered one of leading bankruptcy and tax scholars in the country.

Wait til someone tells you that they're 1/3 Cherokee. (An FC Dallas Fan)

None of that is important right now

The issue of abusing the AA system by clicking a checkbox you have no business clicking because it will advance your career and you know there will be no repercussions.

So Mike what is Warren’s tribal name? I’m guessing “White Wolf that Abuses System” but “Dances with Socialism” also has a nice ring to it.

How is it abusing the system if she is Cherokee? 1/32 counts the same as full blood for citizenship, that's what makes the Freedmen issue such bullshit.

I believe it's "Elizabeth Warren". Her Great Great Grandmother probably married a white guy. As a part of assimilation, Indians were encouraged, to adopt European names so that non-Indians wouldn't have to learn their languages.

Well, since all it seems to take to claim Indian blood these days is high cheek bones and family folklore then Tim McGraw and I are as Native American as you Mike. ;)
    Perhaps even more so:

They’re now calling the Massachusetts Indian Princess “Fauxcahontas”. Now that is funny!

Elizabeth Warren has no CDIB so why do you care to take up her cause? Hell she couldn’t even name her tribe.… Delaware? Cherokee?

I don't recall having taken up her cause, just correcting your poorly copied "thoughts" from the ConCentral. Now, if she does take the time to put in the basic research and apply for a CDIB and get it, she's gold, and makes all of your talking points jazz a moot point. Then again, she's probably never needed to apply for it because you don't get hired by pretty much anyone because of your CDIB status unless it's the BIA or a Tribe.

How do you respond to a question that hasn't been asked?

Funny, you identified her as a Cherokee just a few posts ago, for which she was grateful because the Delaware tribe didn’t want her.

Warren never claimed (to my knowledge) to be Delaware, former poster Mel Brennan did to which he was informed he could claim it all he wanted, but until he's got that CDIB card, he might as well be claiming he was Swedish.

The funny thing is I once asked your advice on delicacies of Native American terminology and symbolism. Guess all that went out the window with Professor Fauxcahontas.

Now that, my sub-human friend, is a good find.

I stand corrected. I guess if I was "taking up her cause", I would have been following it. Tell me, did they contact the right Delaware Tribe? There's more than one?

    I am devastated. Truely.
But what is the point of coming to BigSoccer’s P&CE board if you are just going to block opposing points of view? I come here because I want to see what the other side has to say and think.

It's fun reading Mr W. responding to [ignored user, probably Talking Points]. It reminds me of Garfield Minus Garfield, where it's actually funnier when you don't see the source of the absurdity.
