Pretty interesting article on currently-suspended Swiss rider Thomas Frei. He says he wants to come back clean and do things right. Can people ever believe him (or anyone in his position)?
Really? How much has it grown? We have a discussion forum about this fringe sport as a subsection of another fringe sport website. That says growth. Look cycling will never be huge here, but there are more people participating in it as a serious hobby now than ever before and there are many more high profile events for this sport than there was 20 years ago. And the stuff they are investigating is truly Captain Hindsight stuff. Cyclists doped in the '90's and for the better part of the last decade? Shocking. We all know and most of us have moved on.
What a joke. Delays in Alberto Contador hearing likely. Could he race the Tour de France? http://velonews.competitor.com/2011...ikely-could-he-race-the-tour-de-france_175852
He will, and I wouldn't bet against him getting out of all this without any repercussions either. It's ridiculous.
Swiss lab director confirms meeting Bruyneel and Armstrong over "suspect" samples http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/swi...g-bruyneel-and-armstrong-over-suspect-samples
It's gotten to the point where they might as well unban all forms of doping and drugs. Just let the cards fall where they may. If everyone's doing it, and they cannot stop it, just legalize it, and get on with it. The whole thing makes me sick, but I don't think the sport will ever get cleaned up.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110601/ap_on_sp_ot/cyc_doping_armstrong Armstrong's attorneys want an apology from '60 Minutes.' Good luck with that one. Quite an all in Texas hold 'em versus almost everyone that Lance has going.
Court of Arbitration for Sport approves another delay in Alberto Contador case http://velonews.competitor.com/2011...another-delay-in-alberto-contador-case_186310 A scheduled August hearing on doping charges against Alberto Contador before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport has been delayed until November. The court issued a statement Tuesday noting that the delay was in response to a request by the World Anti-Doping Agency to allow a second round of written submissions between all three parties contesting the case – Contador, WADA and the UCI.
Yeah.....no. I don't know. I guess if WADA requested it then they are either scrambling to make a case or they are awaiting something. Here I am feeling good after an awesome three weeks only to be subjected to the reality of the sport.
Look on the bright side... at least Contador ended up being a bit of a non-factor this year. It would be worse if we'd just had a brilliant Tour that he'd won, and the whole thing was under a cloud.
A little off the cycling focus, but this was tweeted by an angry Vaughters http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/29/s...ikely-in-nfl-this-season.html?_r=1&ref=sports
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...sed-U17-failed-drugs-tests.html#ixzz1b6q4SsrG Does this lend any creedence to Bert's claim?
No one cares, but.... Jan Ullrich given two-year ban from CAS In addition, all his results from May 2005 until his retirement in February 2007 are annulled, including his third-place overall finish in the 2005 Tour de France.
Charles Pelkey's tweet about this says it all CAS issues a decision on Ullrich Up next, a ruling on the Lindbergh kidnapping.
I think I have to take back all the bad things I ever said about people watching Friends, Grey's Anatomy, or soap operas. Between this and footy I am a willing viewer of these train wrecks. AGHHHHH.
