the great figo. when i was growing up nobody appreciated soccer like i did. going to school and we all were watching euro or world cups in the cafeteria and all the cultures were passionate about soccer you got your italiens, french, and spanish its incredible how we bonded but when it came to figo everbody said hes only good as a utility player .what the hell does that mean?.he was once the fifa player of the year and a star who lived up to his expectations yeah he never one with portugal in the big tourneys but to me im gonna miss him and great icon for me and my father.watching him not on the team brings me to tears. the great figo will live in every portugueses hearts. forca figo
Re: the great figo. there were some vintage figo moments last night, if raul could finish from a metre out figo would have a good assist.
Re: the great figo. Figo is and was a great player, he isn´t the old Figo from the Barcelona days, that was capable of going trough all the defenders with is speed, but he is still one of the best and most regular players, normally you never see Figo play a bad game is always there giving his best, just look at the Real Madrid games, he is crucial in Real Madrid last year he was one of the best and one of the few that ended the year with some dignity in that team. Figo is playing at the highest level for more than 14 years, when he was in Sporting he was already great and a top player this in 92,93,94, then went to Barcelona where he was fantastic, remember the Ronaldo and Figo days in Barcelona (fantastic football), he received his highest career prizes in Real Madrid, after his style of football changed... IMO if Figo at the age of 19 or 20 went to play in a really successfull club in Europe despite going to Barcelona... he would be even more appreciated all over the world...
Re: the great figo. I guess you can say that Figo left SCP a little late; I think he was 22 when he left to Barca. Barca also had quite a bit of talent on that team and he had to assert himself there. Well, we all knew what kind of talent he was - it didn't take the rest of the world too long afterwards to figure it out too.
The "old" NT captain scored the winning goal that gave the 4-3 score needed by Inter to defeat Roma to win the Italian supercup.
Figo scored one vs Juventus in Inter's only win in the triangular tournament that also included eventual winner AC Milan.
Figo came in as a sub vs Ascolli and from a FK soon after had his shot deflected on a defender for an own goal, Inter's second. Inter won 2-0.
Luis is still being sought after by FC Moscow, but Inter want to renew his contract. Any comparison to any other portuguese player, is silly. Luis Figo will reign as the best, in the modern era.
I'm not surprised by the interest. He can still play a full game, but he's better either in as a sub now or play only the first half. You can tell he still enjoys the game w/full intensity. I'd say he'll be around for another 3-5 years.
