You mean, is this chapter in Cosmos history dead? If so, it is logical to expect the current soho group to sell the name/history/goodwill for a handsome profit to whomever is awarded NY2.

Stop with this Cosmos name. A new club with a new name. NYCFC, International NYC or another name, but stop with the Cosmos !!!

Possibly - I mean NY is getting a club it seems which is the best news - but the Cosmos thing is still up in the air. I still think at the end of the day it will be the Cosmos in some form - if not with terry in charge.

I was watching the Earthquakes last night and they celebrated a player from the old Quakes - it seems the league is starting to embrace the history of the NASL -

regardless of what it is though - im going to be there.

I'll never, ever understand this sentiment.

An aversion to necrophilia, and an understanding that the weight of the global Cosmos brand on an MLS club could something between a mixed blessing and an albatross. Not all that different, in fact, from the way that the RB brand has proven onerous to the NJ experiment.

Rafa Marquez, to give one good example, was brought in because Austria realized their highly publicized star wasn't/wouldn't come close to filling their highly publicized new stadium, and that looked pretty bad for their highly publicized brand*. Of course, as plenty of people could have told them, that move wasn't ever likely to pan out at the price they paid. And the team and its fans will continue to pay the price for another few years.

*To be fair, the brand probably does reap something from having Marquez flogging its products in Mexico. Fat lot of good it does for the fans in NJ, though.

The weight and legacy of the Cosmos brand is likely to have the same effect. Expect another RBNY with that name, not another RSL.

I think the Cosmos name, coupled with NYC and the ever growing and impressive MLS will make it appealing to foreign talent. I think without the Cosmos tag, the team will always just be 'New Yorks second team' in the remainder of the country.

While those of you in NY/NJ might draw a line in the sand and say this is Queens, this is one of the boroughs, and that is New Jersey - the remainder of the country just lumps it all together.

If NYC2 does happen, it'll need a strong brand --

From a purely personal point of view I think it'd be a shame to bury the most well known name in US Soccer history outside of the LA Galaxy. I think they have probably surpassed the Cosmos at this point. Hopefully the name sells quickly but I get the feeling that it won't and when MLS announces the new team, that the 'what about the Cosmos' sentiment might be worth a bit of cash in terms of apparel and T-Shirts.

The name in itself is something of a commodity ...

    Said it well!

I can see the benefits of a NEW imagine for NY2 but the brand of the Cosmos still holds a lot of weight - weight I had no clue it held until they relaunched the brand.

Its safe to say the Soho Scrubs have run this circus into the ground and are only hanging on to make asses of them selfs to the bitter end....I mean they cant even mail a prize some dude won almost a year ago who is complaining about it on their very worthless face book page.... How can you expect these CLOWNS do some thing complicated like getting a MLS bid together...

ITS OVER IT REALLY IS ACCEPT IT AND WITH IT THE COSMOS CREEPS FROM SOHO CAN RETURN TO THE BOTTOM OF OCEAN WITH THEIR BRAND...

The only real winner here is the cross dressing soccer stalker Pepe pinton who found a MORON in Paul Kemsley to over pay for the so called rights and memorabilia.... The funny part is stalker pinton saying NO MLS OWNERS WERE WORTHY OF THE NAME AND HE THEN SELLS IT TO THE MOST UNWORTHY LOT IN PK AND HIS SOHO MARKETING BRIGADE..... PK a real estate loser who went bankrupt a few times and claim to fame was hanging out with TV D list celebrity Tart pamala anderson....

STEVE ROSS WEEPS IN THE AFTER LIFE............................

I am waiting for the big ad with actor for hire eric cantona saying WE'RE OVER!!!!

its the least they can do............

I've always liked the idea of the Cosmos being in MLS but have been very skeptical that they could pull it off.

Recent developments have done nothing but enhance that skepticism. And judging by comments on BS and the Cosmos Facbook page, it seems a lot of people who want the Cosmos back are becoming convinced that this is becoming a charade with little to no chance of coming to fruition.

It's always had the feel of the emperor not wearing any clothes but now it's just starting to seem like a ship drifting aimlessly at sea.

The Cosmos aren't dead yet...was there a funeral? Though given the lack of communication I guess being MIA might as well be Dead.

The ownership went through a lot of trouble just to sell some shirts...

At least there is the PDL team...that plays in Staten Island next year...which has poor public transportation options...

Did they confirm that? I thought they were looking to get the PDL in Queens but with FCNY that might be a challenge

I think the issue with a PDL team would be the Knights as they already play in Maspeth rather than an issue with FCNY.

FCNY is the issue - This is what I was told anyhow - I think Belson was the target home for the PDL side.

my understanding is that FCNY has a right to this coming year to be the PDL team. If they don't put a PDL team out there, then another PDL team can located in queens.

Some people originally thought that about the Seattle Sounders. Get the right set-up and the Cosmos won't look back. We are talking history here.

The major difference is that the Sounders wasn't a dead name like the Cosmos are. They had existed for 14 years prior to entering MLS.

We were also told that they had funding locked up so who knows what the actual story is.

    Right -

Hey - when Doug Peterson told us he was in talks with Icahn - we found out he was lying to us - but i guess that worked out when he realized Hofstra would have been a shit venue -

I guess we have to see if this pans out as well.

The COsmos might be lying - Garber might be lying - only one way to know the truth - and that is to wait it out at this point - i imagine a lot of news around this month with MLS cup and all the talk of schedule and state of the league etc.

It seems that the Cosmos have been less than truthful but Garber has also made statements saying the Cosmos had the finances to get this done as well.

    Its all a cluster ********

Exactly .. We no longer can trust what anyone says from Garber to the Cosmos to anyone related to this cluster.
