Today the red card was not just... actually NEITHER red should have been given. The ref let some funky stuff go early and the game got out of hand...
No argument from me about the justice of Mathis' redcard. Check out the Trib's discussion of the event, http://sltrib.com/realsaltlake/ci_2921306. Obviously, Romo is the one who should have received a red. Still, doesn't Mathis have a way of attracting trouble? And, since he does, isn't that a negative consideration for Arena when putting together the MNT? That's what I'm asking about Mathis and the half-time interview.
Any word on the amount of the fine and how many games mathis will be suspended, I assume the league may want to make an example here.
It will be (at most) a $500 fine and a one game suspension. After MLS reviews all the tapes, they'll see that clearly Clint was a hot head, but he didn't do anything at all. All bark no bite. Romo on the other hand might be made an example of.
Or maybe an example here would be more appropriate... http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5753941&postcount=200 Blantant kick to the stomach while your team mates hold up the opposing player or questionable slight-of-hand to the groin after being kicked with the ball when injured???
I dread every match against those hacks in stripes! Its a flat out joke everytime. A second on-field referee needs to be scheduled by MLS in order to catch all the shizz that goes on with those guys. What a disgrace to the league! I've played this game my whole life and I am well aware of all the stall tactics and ways to get inside your opponents head but honestly its like those guys spend their training and spare time trying to figure out more BS they can try to pull during the game and it starts with their team captain Ramirez. Any respect I have for Ramirez's game is completely lost with all the lame things he pulls during the game. Also, could that ref have given more empty verbal warnings? Gosh, I would keep doing it too if he wasnt ever going to whip out the yellow. Anyways, is anybody curious what the first thing Clint did after he left the field and the mele? I have a reliable source that tells me that he was on the horn with Major League Soccer's Referree board telling them that they better review every tape and picture before they decide penalties. He was adamant that he never touched romo... no knock... no squirrel tap... nothing. He may be a hot head and but at least he isn't a chivas hack.
