Moratti, Trochetti Provera and Guido Rossi are all linked and supporters of Inter, and good buddies. Tronchetti Provera is the former director of Pirelli which sponsors Inter and a long time shareholder himself, and becomes chairman of Telecom Italia in 2001. All three of them are unhappy with the failure Inter has been recently and want to find a way to change the order of things. They're all aware, as is everyone else at a big club, how the system works. They know how the referee designator can be influenced and that's why Facchetti has the role of doing that at Inter, and Meani at Milan. Everyone is part of and partaking in the system. But everyone also knows that Moggi is the person who wields the most influence. They want things to change for Inter given how they've become a laughing stock and perennial losers. It's between them now that they concoct calciopoli with the main goal in mind: bring attention to Moggi's role and get Juve punished for maximum effect. So the plan is hatched, Trochetti Provera as chairman of Telecom Italia will gather the incriminating evidence through the wiretaps of Moggi and his recorded calls (we already know Inter wiretapped Vieri during this period as well and have been convicted, so we know they could). Once they think they have a compelling enough dossier especially after our back to back Scudetti, they leak the calls to the press. Why? Because they know they've obtained it all illegally, it's the only way they can get the info out without being implicated. So they already set the pieces in place before they do so, Guido Rossi who's had a extended legal career already provides them with the legal framework to ensure calciopoli will bear fruit. As soon as the scandal unfolds and the calls for someone outside of the football world to assume the position of FIGC commissioner increase, he assumes the role through a carefully laid plan for him to take the post, provide the legal framework for the prosecution of Juve to take place, and push through the calciopoli trials as soon as possible. It's at this point he cuts deals with everyone else, Berlusconi and Galliani included. He says he won't relegate Milan and ensure they get to participate in the CL, in exchange for Inter taking the 2006 Scudetto even though they finished 3rd. You do realize it was his decision to award Inter that Scudetto, right? And both him and Albertini agree it will be mutually beneficial to get Juve out of the picture for a while and they can contest Serie A between them in the meantime. All the other clubs implicated agree as well, they've got nothing to lose substantially because they're staying in Serie A. So as soon as calciopoli is over, the deed is done, Moggi is ruined and Juve is relegated, Trochetti Provera resigns at Telecom Italia (in September 2006, isn't that quaint?) knowing he doesn't want the unwanted attention of being head of the company from which all the calls were leaked from, and having his Inter connection brought to light. So he agrees with Guido Rossi to succeed him as chairman of Telecom Italia, to not only take heat off him but also to ensure there is no internal investigation against TP, and also in order for him to make sure that the evidence against Inter does not come to light at least until the statute of limitations is over for the same period. In addition, Guido Rossi makes sure all the legal avenues are closed to challenge Telecom Italia's role in the scandal. And we know the rest, Inter dominates in the post-calciopoli era
Now the shoe is on the other foot. To think there are those who actually believe that Italy is the only corrupt league and that the phenomenon doesn't exist anywhere else.
Moggi Calciopoli sentence cut By Football Italia staff Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi was given a sentence of two years and four months in the Calciopoli appeal trial. Moggi had appealed against the original conviction of five years and four months, which was reduced considerably this evening by the Naples Tribunal looking at the 2004-05 season. Ex-referee Massimo De Santis was given a one-year sentence and former refereeing designator Pierluigi Pairetto two years. Moggi was found guilty of conspiring to commit a crime, as the earlier charge of sporting fraud passed the statute of limitations. Other sentences include two years for ex-FIGC Vice-President Innocenzo Mazzini, 10 months for referees Antonio Dattilo and Paolo Bertini, all for sporting fraud. Paolo Bergamo’s appeal has to be repeated due to a technicality, while Lazio President Claudio Lotito and Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle passed the statute of limitations. Moggi was not present in the court when the verdict was read after nine hours of consultations between magistrates. His lawyers already announced an appeal to the third tier of the Italian justice system, the Cassazione, with “new evidence.” It is extremely unlikely Moggi – who is now a media pundit – will actually spend any time in prison. Moggi’s lawyers had argued he only had access to Swiss telephone SIM cards to avoid Inter spying on his calls when discussing transfers. @falvo
And the farce played on... Morratti was running his own private NSA and gets off scott free... It's as clear as day that he suppressed and manufactured evidence to fabricate the scandal... But the courts keep churning along under the pretense that the case against Moggi did not completely evaporate years ago once the actual evidence came out...
So now after all this he only got one year which has now been annulled? Seems like such a waste of time for all these years that passed and all this crap that happened.
I just watched this video. Incredible how much bullshit the Calciopoli scandal was. They actually play many of the recorded phone calls, many where the refs are actually making sure that Juve doesn't get favored. Specifically an Inter match where the ref Rodomonti was conditioned by Bergamo who was told by Carerro. Incredible!!
Here's an excellent article, written by a Milanista, on a Milanista site about how much of a farce Calciopoli was. You could beat this into certain fans heads every day and they still would side with the farce orchestrated by Inter. http://www.milanobsession.com/2014/07/calcios-greatest-shame.html
Moggi is cleared of all wrong doing..... La Cassazione chiude Calciopoli: prescrizione per Giraudo e Moggi
