I say they should be given special names: 5 goals - Combrero 6 goals - Golden Combrero Also - does anyone have a longer combless streak than TFC*? *currently 2178 days and counting
Yes, the longest run without dishing out a Comb should be held by TFC now, with reference to the "All-Time" Standings through Oct-7, 2012 (to be updated through 2012 season soon...) as below. TFC last dished out a Comb in 2007: 2007-06-17 MLS FC Dallas (H) 4 - 0 http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/team/stat...t=0&teamLeagueId=21&year=0&matches=0&result=0
Talk about "good start", the following table would list the arrival of the First Comb(s) from the start date of the past seasons. K.C. have dished out the most First Combs at 3, while D.C. & N.E. have suffered the most First Combs at 3 each as well... Who put this Wiki page together? The 1996 KCW v Columbus 6-4 match was at Arrowhead Stadium. The 7-0 Chicago victory was also at Arrowhead and took place on July 4th. I was at both games and am 100% certain KCW was the home team in both.
You are right: 1. The 1996 KCW v Columbus 6-4 match was at Arrowhead Stadium.http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule?m..._type=all&op=Search&form_id=mls_schedule_form2. The 7-0 Chicago victory was also at Arrowhead and took place on July 4th.http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule?m..._type=all&op=Search&form_id=mls_schedule_formLooks like somebody has confused the home/road teams sequence & date formats (YMD vs YDM) for these mistakes... Hence also spotted the other error: 3. The 6-0 Dallas victory over SKC should be on Aug-1 (8/1), not Jan-8 (1/8):http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule?m..._type=all&op=Search&form_id=mls_schedule_form Have helped fixed these in Wiki too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Soccer_records_and_statistics#Highest_scoring_games
By the way, was quite disappointed with Phily that a 4th goal didn't come for over an hour, having already leading 3-0 after the 31st minute: http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-06-05-PHI-v-CLB/stats At least 1 Comb is needed every week for the remaining weeks to set a new record for the highest percentage of Blowout Combs in a season...
It's been exactly a month, since the last Blowout Comb on Jun-2, "BORED"... With almost half the season gone (6 Combs in 158 Games through Jun-30, for 3.797%), looks like we won't be seeing new record number (13) or percentage (8.23%) of Blowout Combs in 2013, unless they start coming in thick and fast for the rest of the season...
Which of these next games shall most likely produce Blowout Combs? Perhaps TFC vs Montreal, or FCD vs Chivas?
Actually, the current wait of more than a month (since the last Blowout Comb was dished out) is nothing much, as compared to the longest wait (91 days!) for the 1st Comb in 2004... Also, IICC (If I Calculated/Computed Correctly), the longest gap within a season between Blowout Combs would be 56 days, between the following 2 games: http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/league/matchesAll.php?stageId=136 2005-05-14 Columbus Crew - Sporting Kansas City 0 - 4 2005-07-09 CD Chivas USA - Real Salt Lake 5 - 1
Well it's not MLS league play--but last night's USMNT game was certainly a blowout--my goodness. Maybe the USMNT can get an honorary comb on this thread?
They have dished out 2 (back-to-back no less) in 2013 so far... http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule?m..._type=all&op=Search&form_id=mls_schedule_form Friday, July 5, 2013: USA6 - 0 GuatemalaTuesday, July 9, 2013: Belize1 - 6 USA
Also, this was the USMNT's first pair of consecutive combs since late 1993, when the US blew out the Cayman Islands (predictably) and El Salvador (not so predictably at the time).
Seventh Update of 2013 as below. There could have been up to 4 Blowout Combs over this weekend (will check if there have been any past weekends with more than 1), had the following games blown-up as well; but alas, they were not meant to be... 2013-07-13 FC Dallas - Real Salt Lake 0 - 3 (0-3 after 90th mins) 2013-07-13 Sporting Kansas City - Toronto FC 3 - 0 (3-0 after 63th mins) 2013-07-14 Vancouver Whitecaps FC - Chicago Fire SC 3 - 1 (3-0 after 84th mins)
Another near-miss on Blowout Comb last week as Chicago were 4-0 up against D.C. after 56 minutes, though The Comb was not to be... http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-07-20-CHI-v-DC/stats Goals and AssistsClub - Time - Player (Assisted by)CHI - 2' - Chris Rolfe (Joel Lindpere)CHI - 11' - Joel Lindpere (Jeff Larentowicz)CHI - 45' + 1 - Chris Rolfe (Joel Lindpere)CHI - 56' - Mike MageeDC - 58' - Luis Silva (Perry Kitchen)
Another Blowout Comb from USMNT: Sunday, July 21, 2013: USA 5 - 1 El SalvadorThere was a "near-Comb" before that too: Saturday, July 13, 2013: USA 4 - 1 Cuba
Forgot to check---did you give comb credit to the Red Bulls for that 4-0 won against Eastern Conf. leading Montreal last week?
That was in the N&A thread. I think this was the fourth and the first where the team in Jersey wasn't involved.
