    Great!

But if you're going to call them the San Jose Clash, then you need to change the 1996 listings from Wizards to Wiz!

So what is it when a team has a three goal lead and doesn't get three points? A train wreck?

This past Saturday featured our first Blowout Comb of the season.

Congratulations to the Colorado Rapids for earning their 6th all-time blowout victory.

Congratulations in a different order for Chivas USA, combed for the 6th time in their much shorter history.

Referee was Kevin Stott, the 16th time he's been in the middle for a Comb.

More importantly, condolences to Knave. You have been disappointed for the betterment of this board.

2003, the year the Chicago Fire were involved in 3 out of 4 blowout comb games.

The last game of the year was when they managed to combine a blown tire with the receiving end of a blowout comb. The last game against the Crew was meaningless, as the Fire had already clinched the Shield. They took a 2-0 lead into halftime, then inserted a callup from the A-League named Curtis Spiteri in goal. 45 minutes and 6 goals later, his MLS career was toast, and the Fire had pulled off a unique sort of double.

Last season, it should be noted that we toyed with the idea of the Spork: Losing a game in which you had a lead in the 89th minute or later, which Sporting KC pulled off twice in the span of three weeks last year.

The whole concept of Comb Differential is beyond excellent. "Your teams sucks." "What are you talking about, look at our trophy case." "Nah mate, your CD is for shit."

I am a bit concerned that we are a third into the season and I have yet to see any tie breaker rules published. Next your going to tell me that they changed from last year's unpublished rules.

I'm glad Canadian championship games don't count in the comb standings

No worries, if 2012 is anything to go by, the new rules will be published around TWO THIRDS of the season, just stay tuned...

    Fourth Update of 2013:
    • The blowout combs are coming thick and fast for the past 3 match days, S.J. (defending SS Winners no less) was the 4th team to be blown away this season with the 0-4 road loss to Seattle on May-11.

So, when was the last time we had three combs in a week?

The most recent occurrence was in 2012:
    http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/league/matchesAll.php?stageId=1312

    21 2012-07-15 San Jose Earthquakes - Real Salt Lake 5 - 0
    21 2012-07-16 Houston Dynamo - D.C. United 4 - 0
    22 2012-07-22 FC Dallas - Portland Timbers 5 - 0

In 1998, it has happened twice in fact:
    http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/league/matchesAll.php?stageId=1230

    13 1998-06-03 San Jose Earthquakes - D.C. United 0 - 4
    13 1998-06-04 FC Dallas - Los Angeles Galaxy 1 - 8

    22 1998-08-05 Colorado Rapids - Los Angeles Galaxy 1 - 6
    23 1998-08-08 Columbus Crew - New England Revolution 6 - 1
    23 1998-08-09 San Jose Earthquakes - New York Red Bulls 5 - 1

A comb for the 4th-straight match-day almost happened as L.A. beat Phily 4-1 (on the road no less) on May-15.

Alas, it was not to be, else a new "Straight Combs" record could have been set...

Also, had Phily lost by 4 goals or more, their proud "Un-Combed" streaks since joining the league in 2010 would have been snapped too.

    List of on-going "Un-Combed" streaks, through May-15, 2013:
    • Colorado: 234+11= 245 games (2004-09-25 to 2013-05-15, 9+ seasons!!!)
    • Houston: 197+11= 208 Games (2006-04-02 to 2013-05-15, 7+ seasons!!)
    • Philadelphia: 98+11= 109 Games (2010-03-25 to 2013-05-15, 3+ seasons!)
    • Montreal: 34+10= 44 Games (2012-03-11 to 2013-05-15, 1+ season.)

Very likely so, given the rarity of Blowout Combs, and the even rarity of successive combs.

    Related Observations:

    1. Chivas USA may probably be the only team being combed twice in the same week:
    http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/team/matches.php?teamId=887&teamLeagueId=0&year=2012&matches=0&result=0

    2012-09-30 MLS Real Salt Lake (H) 0 - 4 L
    2012-10-04 MLS Vancouver Whitecaps FC (A) 0 - 4 L

    2. On the other hand, L.A. could be the only team which have combed others, as well being combed, all within the same week:
    http://aragon.ws/soccerdb/team/matches.php?teamId=395&teamLeagueId=0&year=2012&matches=0&result=0

    2012-08-06 MLS Seattle Sounders FC (A) 0 - 4 L
    2012-08-13 MLS CD Chivas USA(A) 4 - 0 W

    Enjoy the Combs!

    Fifth Update of 2013:
    • 2 "firsts" happened as L.A. combed Seattle 4-0 on May-26:
      1. L.A. became the first team to dish out multiple combs this season.
      2. Seattle became the first team to both dish out and received combs.
