Yes, it was this season where he started to receive general criticism and Lozano indeed returned. Lozano had just as Scifo btw Belgian traces (immigrants) but laws made that the one was a Spaniard and the other a Belgian.
But maybe they were too harsh or expected too much. Hard to say. Lozano was anyway again the 'go-to' guy (maybe you remember that I posted some clips including a goal scored directly from a corner-kick in European match).
Scifo also received mixed feelings from home country during 1986WC (NT coach Thys had doubts about him) but as remarked in other thread, it seems that abroad they had a different view. You once remarked/posted that disallowed free kick goal he scored I think, which was shot in a very clean and effortless way. Maradona also highlighted Scifo as player he liked, and that was the only player mentioned by him. Of course they saw in Belgium that he did good things with the ball but at the same time he provoked mixed feelings (Thys called him "undisciplined" and "unfocused at some moments"). Maybe that is recurring theme with quite some technically gifted players (like Rivera as well; without suggesting that Scifo has same legacy as Rivera).
Also good to mention that Scifo came from a tough background and that he received applause since a young age. That sometimes goes, without guidance/assistance, along with ups and downs.

Day #26 : Franck Silvestre in Marseille v Sochaux (1-2).
Day #27 : Bernard Genghini in Monaco v Bordeaux (9-0, 4 goals, deft ball before the gk, header after a deflection with the head on a ck, half-volley at the netry of the box after a bad clearance on a ck, diving header on a cross). No red cards.
Day #35 : Carmelo Micciche in Metz v Brest (3-1, 2 goals, 1 assist. shot in the top corner, superb work on the left flank and cross to Bocandé, solo feat on the right then beats the gk with the left).

Source : FF via footnostalgie. Every day match reports were posted in one thread (you'll need to have a certain amount of contributions to access it).

Etoiles final ranking : N/A. Amoros (Monaco) won it. Burruchaga (Nantes) for the foreigners. Coach : Guy Roux (Auxerre).

Podium : PSG 56, Nantes 53, Bordeaux 49). Then Toulouse, Lens, Metz, Auxerre...
Cup : Bordeaux beat Marseille with goals of Tigana and Giresse (2-1).
Europe 85/86 : Nantes quarter-finalist in the E3. First round exit for Bordeaux in E1, Monaco in E2, Auxerre and Metz in E3. Auxerre beat Milan 3-1 at l'Abbé-Deschamps then is beaten 3-0 at San Siro.

Opinion : I think Tigana is missing in the list. Also, Genghini can compete with some AM's who were listed, like Thoresen, I guess. Giresse still had the technique but perhaps not the physique.
Battiston too, in 85/86. He was at his peak (as a libero, 84/85 and 85/86).

The writer magnified the goals of Micciche, just a little bit.
