Ok here it is a video from a tv sport program in Brasil with the discussion Ronaldo x Romário. Soccer specialists and the general public voted on a poll, with more than half million votes.

Well Romario is a Carioca who played for Carioca clubs.

Ronaldo is a Carioca now playing for a Paulista club.

Some people may see that as a sort of betrayal. Hence the difference in votes.

    ^That is the truth.

BTW I don't think the OP ever clarified whether this was about the best players of the 90's and then the best of the 00's, or the best of the two decades together...

YOUTUBE? yeah right - an "official" listing? Now about WHO made the votes, I don;t know how they know and how they rated.

Appraisal: All I know most professionals like Coaches, legend players , and even younger players mostly appreciated Ronaldo more:

1- Coaches: Robson, Mourinho, Capello, Zagallo,Luxemburgo, Pareira all said Ronaldo was the best striker they ever had or the best since Maradona

2- Legends: Pele, Zico, Zairzinho, Maldini, Zidane , Messi.. all paid special admire to Ronaldo

3- Younger stars: Ronaldinho, Kaka, Pato, Robinho, Eduardo, Ibrahimovic.. are all idiolized and inspired by Ronaldo

You don;t see such things for Romario!
    ===================================================

STATS (same team/club for comparison apple to apple)

    1- PSV:
    Ronaldo (54go/57ga =0.95GPG) > Romario (98go/109ga = 0.90GPG)

    2- Barca:
    Ronaldo (47go/49ga =0.96GPG) > Romario (34go/46ga =0.74GPG)

    3- Big events in NT:
    - WC: Ronaldo (15go+4as/19ga) 1WC+1final > Romario (5go+2as/7ga) 1WC
    Ronaldo won Goldenball98+Goldenboot02+Silverboot02+Bronzeboot06 > Romario 1Goldenball94

    - COpa: Ronaldo (10go+4as/12ga) 2Copas + 1MVP 97 > Romario (4go+1ass/5ga)

    - COnfed: Romario (7go/6ga) goldenboot > Ronaldo (4go+2as/6ga) -
Even we ignored the fact that Ronaldo played as SS behind Romario from 96-98) yet his goals stat are quite matced with more assists

    ==================================================

    Skills :

    1- Dribble: Ronaldo
    2- Ball COntrol: Equal
    3- Passing: Ronaldo
    4- Vision: Ronaldo
5- Shooting: Equal (even I ignore the fact that Ronaldo slightly better in longshots from 16-22m)
    6- Efficiency: Eqqual
7- Adaptation: Ronaldo (slighly edge out with more clubs/leagues, and proven great with may different partner)
    8- Header: Romario
9- Rising to big occasion: Equal
    10- Athleticism/fitness: Romario

    ALL IN ALL:
it's easy to see Ronaldo better and why Ronaldo was worldwidely rated as higher!

In 1999,he had his left knee injured trying to do a double lunge .No one believe Ronaldo could come back after his second time knee injured of 2000.But KING'S BACK and scored 8 goals in 02 world cup.
We found some retire legends, like of Baggio,Basten...Ever since they got injuries, they could not recover from the failure and frustration.Only Ronaldo could do that!In 1998 World Cup ,Ronaldo was very close to the king of football of all time, but his dream ends with failure, the best player of mid '90s ,the fenomeno finished his long-cherished wish in 2002 world cup ,in 2007,the 100 kg Ronaldo scored 2 goals in his first game of Ac milan.in 2009,Pele said that Ronaldo is over, but he helped Corinthians won the Brazilian Cup and won the best player honor. In 2000,he still could played in football field though he hasn't played in FIFA 2010 world cup,you know,so many people thought Ronaldo would never play in 10 years ago

And we couldn't compare Romario to Ronaldo, but we could compare Zico,Maradona,Baggio to Ronaldo. We should compare Romario to Puskas or Muller

I don;t think YOUTUBE would represent "true Brazilian public" - except a whole bunch of youngsters who had time to deal with Youtube!

I also had discussed with many "brazilan die hard fans" and they all agreed Ronaldo is much more multidimensional than the INBOX Romario!

That was a poll on Brasil global sport ,Romario won!And other poll about Zico X Zidane,Zico got around 64% if I'm not mistaken. But other poll in Spain Marca.com ,Zidane's votes more than Pele,he won the poll about "who was best No10 in World Cup history".

OK agree here. It is a close debate

However, related to that type of votes ; Just note that inside brazil alot of fans would still "believe" Garricha was a better player than Pele (?) and that would only confirm me how they rated players - no basis, no facts, no stats ... but strictly from their hearts

Man, these is soccer, is not basketball, swimming, running and etc, you dont need stats in everything to prove who was a better player.

Tell me what math experts say about who was better. Monnet or Picasso?

My granpa saw Garrincha and Pelé many times and he believe that Garrincha was better, and whats is wrong about that? Ok should i tell my granpa that Pelé had more goals, more assists and more physical, and than he would say that Garrincha was more skillfull. Do you have any method to measure who had more skills? i dont think so...

Maybe this is why some europeans soccer schools are so boring, like italian and english ones, they try to explain everything based on stats...

If soccer could be explain in numbers it will be VERY BORING.

First, what made you think Soccer is so "special" compared to Basketball? (Swimming is an individual sport so it's not appropriate to soccer and basketball anyway)

Now, as you mentioned Monet, Picasso or Vangoh ... PLEASE, do you really KNOW how those legends were rated thru their pieces of art? NOT BY television programm on YOUTUBE surely!

They were judged and carefully studied by community of great professional artists, professors of arts in universities and so ...

Same to soccer players, it's easy to say who is better in "OBVIOUS cases" like Baggio vs Inzaghi, or Pele vs Rooney ... but there are 2 difficult cases:

1- Players of different positions: like how to rate accurately Zidane vs Romario or Ronaldo?

2- a "close call" like Romario vs Ronaldo here; or Van Basten vs Eusebio ...

In both above scenarios, a clear criteria/basis to be agreed upon HOW to rate them and BASED on WHAT? of course here came to the pictures: talents, FACTS like achievements individual and team, STATS like what he has done over career, and longevity to affirm he is NOT a wonder hero on ONE occasion.

I rather soccer than basketball, but i really like basketball too. Basketball is a sport that involves stats, there are stats everywhere, different than soccer.

I just think that you cant compare genious using numbers, Ronaldo was great, Romário was great, i saw both players for a long time, on Tv, on the stadium and etc, but if you really like to use numbers on soccer, Romário made more than 1.000 goals, Ronaldo didn't. I dont think that Romário was better just because of that, because numbers dont explain nothing, they tell what you want to they to tell.

Score 1.000 goals like Pelé is note hard, hard is make one goal like Pelé.

Just to finish the Tv program that you are talking about is one of the most popular soccer programs in Brasil, and is not a youtube program.

    Zidane.

Brazilian zealots (or asian brazilian wannabe) would rate any 3 years old unknow brazilian ahead. Since this board is infested by them, ad nauseum, it starts to be unreadable.

That's not a Youtube video. It's a video from a very famous Brazilian sports program that is on TV. Somebody just decided to post it on Youtube. They decided to find out who was better by asking many journalists, experts, players, coaches and some regular people on the streets along with an Internet poll.

Maybe you should a little better attention to what other people post before jumping to a conclusion.
