Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I am starting up a new Impact supporters group here in Boston called The Benedict Arnolds. A true American hero, shut out by the crass leadership of the Continental Army, who then became a loyal supporter of the loyalist.

Here in Boston we have been left out in the cold by our owner. Over the years Kraft has systematically destroyed professional soccer, and even the game of soccer on the whole to some extent, here in Boston. Year after year fans leave. Even the most die-hard, early adopter, day-one fans have called it quits. Many of them have stopped following the league altogether. However, many of us still love the sport, and the league. We realize that the League is not the Revs. The league has evolved quite a bit, even thought the Revs are still stuck in the past.

I'm working on turning a lot of those disgruntled Revs supporters, the ones who are completely fed up, into Monteal Impact supporters. The Impact are an example of a franchise that has done it right. Even before joining MLS, Saputo put his money down to build a stadium. Investment in coaching staffs and players has also been a bright sign.

Then there is the growing fanbase. One that instills the aspects of what supporting a football team should be about. Not about 40 year old soccer moms, their 9 year old kids, hot dogs, cotton-candy, and a bullshit mascot called Slyde.

I've been shunned by some New Englanders for suggesting this, but I've also received a good amount of support. The naysayers think that you will not accept us. They think that the rivalry between our hockey teams will drive a wedge between us. However, I know that you guys will accept true football supporters, with open arms. Especially ones who have been left out in the cold by an ownership group that doesn't care about them, and probably never will.

At the time Montreal was under the control of the British army. You know, La Guerre de la Conquête.

You got it. The gestapo Revs security probably won't let it in, but I'll try.

Pretty nifty idea. A little OT, but I wish the USL side Boston Victory had a better name. My idea was the Boston Loyalist and to gather disgruntled Revs.

I support anybody who supports the Impact, but taking a loyalist's name as the name of a Montreal's supporter group just doesn't feel right (I get that it's a reference to who was against the Revolution, but still, in 1776 Montreal's population was definitely on the Patriots' side). Anyways, I'm glad to see we will have some local support in New England!

Trust your revisionist take on history? Yeah, sure.

Arnold was a dirty traitor who changed sides because of his own ambition. Regardless, no matter what you believe it's a fact that his name is synonymous with "traitor" to this day...and you want to name a supporters group after him?

Dumbest idea ever (though I don't blame you for hating Kraft).

lol the only revisionist history is the kind that attempted to downplay Arnold's immense role in the war up until the point he was pushed too far.

No point in arguing history with you on a soccer forum, but what is not subjective is the fact that (as already stated) his name is synonymous with "traitor" whether you agree with it or not, so don't be surprised when people don't leap at the opportunity to be in the "Benedict Arnolds".

Yes, but this painting of him as the ultimate traitor is both lacking in context and taking a broad, overly patriotic view of history. Benedict Arnold was a patriot through and through and probably the most cunning soldier in the entire war. And yet he was constantly passed over for promotion while lesser officers were allowed to take credit for battles he won. Finally he said "eff this" and gave into his wife's loyalist sympathies. As he explained later in his life, he didn't trust the Continental Congress and felt so uneasy about allying with the French, who most (protestant) Americans at the time would have regarded as a natural enemy.

There have been whole chapters written about how Arnold's been demonized in American history. Safe to say, it was one of the most effective propaganda campaigns in history

His name is synonymous with the term traitor because the history surrounding him is subjective. Obviously this is a tough concept for you to understand. Maybe you should look beyond wikipedia and online thesauruses when educating yourself about history.

You must admit the name is great for people who actually SWITCH SIDES!

All wars, and I mean ALL, is full of people who is as important as volatile. It is really hard to form an opinion on them. There are many arguments to support anything...

It'd be awesome if you dressed up in loyalist uniforms and went to an Impact away game in Foxboro.

For the record, YoureNumberTen, he wants the 'traitor' mantle. This FO is so bad (in his mind, at least) that he's willing to start an SG for another team to demonstrate that.
