Thats a tough question, bc there are so many mom and pop shops that make really good ones. It all depends on where you are at. My favorite when I was a kid was Delassandro's kinda near Manayunk. But as far as well known places, next time your in Philly go to John's Roast Pork and grab a roast pork with Provolone and brocali rabe. amazing. And Cosmi's Deli for a cheesesteak.

Its kind of like pizza, in that if you eat enough of them, you start to notice the small things that make all the difference. But that said, they are what they are, just a hoagie and not some great thing worthy of a 3 hour drive. Most of them are comparable to each other.
