That was good episode. Philip's obviously losing the plot, BIG time. I was watching the bit at the end where the religious guy is telling him about god's grace and understanding, thinking, 'Well, you might find out coz you'll be a lot closer to him in a minute' The thing with Beeman and his wife is interesting too. I assume they're showing the toll the work has on everyone involved in it, regardless of which side they're on. I'm guessing the Contra training guy, (forget the name), will be looking to extract revenge at some point. Not sure how well that's gonna go, tbh. My guess is, not too well. Apart from anything, you can't have the stars written out for a minor part player, can you.
I thought for sure that pastor was toast! So much threat exuding from Rhys in that scene. Speaking of Lee Tergesen, I know he has done great work in Oz and Generation Kill, but I still see him as Chett from Weird Science. Anyone else having that problem?
I'm aware of the Waltons but I'm probably around two decades too young for it to have been a factor in my childhood! The Weird Science TV show landed smack in the middle of puberty.
Elizabeth's increasing resentment of her daughter's "easy" childhood is very interesting. Especially in light of her not feeling the same towards Henry.
Another fine episode. Nina, Nina, Nina she really has little choice but to persuade Stan and Richard Thomas's character to allow her defection to the United States. I doubt Stan would turn against his own Country. Elizabeth and Phillip have quite a dilemma on their hands. The rogue Special Forces or Seal will not rest until the responsible parties are dead.
Another great episode. I honestly thought that Wrenn Schmidt's character would be around for a bit longer. BTW, what do you think her message, "Get Jared out", means? Are they to save him from Larik or the Soviets? I also liked Zeljko Ivanek's cameo. He similarly played a man with terminal cancer who sort of goes rogue on "Banshee".
So according to the gossip columns our favorite pair of KGB sleeper agents are also an item in real life now?
loved the genuine surprise on philip's face when martha told him she "even loved the toupee." also, i have a sneaky suspicion that nina sergeevna is the smartest person in the room.
I've been wondering who is going to figure out their secret first, Stan, Paige, or Martha. I like that they've been able to hold off on that moment for the first two seasons, because once they go there, the show may go off the rails pretty quickly.
I'm glad Stan did not turn and become a traitor. It remains to be seen if he just lets Nina go or if he tries to intervene. Phillip is going to piss off his bosses in Moscow. Elizabeth remains clueless on what the impact of turning her daughter will do to her and her family. I would have thought that she would have wised up by now.
I hope this isn't the end of Annet Mahendru on this show. I doubt it will be, but you never know. I also liked John Carroll Lynch and thought his characters death was rather sudden. I had suspected they had more planned for his character.
BTW, the kid who played Jared was really good, even before the big reveal. Check out his facial expression when Elizabeth tells him she never knew another couple who loved their kids so much as his parents did.
The Jared story-line was well-constructed. There was a moment very early on in the season when Claudia voiced an unspecified suspicion about who might have killed the other illegals, if it wasn't Larik. IIRC, she admitted being horrified at the thought. It would seem that suspicion was likely already aimed at Jared.
He had been approached by Kate behind his parents back to join the Illegals program. Apparently Kate had sort of seduced him to get him on board. That day in the hotel, his parents found out about that and his dad told him he would never allow him to join up. So the kid ended up killing his entire family in a panic.
seems to be a bit of a stretch that an argument about that would devolve into triple homicide of his own family. good episode and finale nonetheless.
Thanks. I had trouble following exactly what happened. I got the Kate part, but couldn't figure out the rest of it. That was a really good final episode, although I thought some of the rest of the season was shaky.
