Ironically, civil libertarians in the USA want S&F records destroyed, so there are no accurate records of who is being stopped.

Except you said that "with millions more living there uncounted, as well as commuting and visiting each day". Which to me implies you were arguing that leaving out the tourists and commuters, New York City has "millions" of uncounted residents. As your third article states, Mayor Bloomberg believes the census undercount for the entire city is only about 225,000. A far cry from millions, wouldn't you say?

    I didn't "imply" anything.

No, Mr. Perry, only one side is at fault.

If that actually happened as told, yes, only one side is at fault. But I find it very difficult to believe that they didn't identify themselves beforehand. That puts EVERYBODY in danger.

Why would the Sheriff's Office say they didn't identify themselves if it wasn't true? It would make the murder victim look worse if they had identified themselves as law enforcement and he brought a gun to the door anyway.

    I'm distrusting the journalist.

I've seen hundreds of warrants served and I've never once seen the police not identify themselves clearly, usually in multiple languages..

Don't be drinking, not understand English, conceal a can of beer in your waistband & walk away from officers trying to question you.
An autopsy will reveal his BAC & might show whether his arms were raised, on not.

Guess Freedom of Expression is another one we can cast into the bin for the sake of security and being PC.

Perhaps the officers should have just painted "Alan Ket is an asshole" on the wall of their station house ...

    Wow.

Seriously, Jake, what punishment should the police involved in this incident receive?

    None. Free speech, right?

Two cops just vandalized someone's property. You'd think they'd get some sort of punishment.

No. The police were on private property, painting over a mural that had been painted on that private property, apparently without the explicit authorization of the party responsible for the private property (who *had* given their authorization for the mural).

I'm almost always exasperated with the "let's automatically assume everything that's not clear in the article in such a way as to make the cops look bad" mentality that's de rigeur in this thread; but if the article is factually correct, I can't see any explanation for this one.

Except you didn't -- again, the mural was painted with the A-OK of those responsible for the property. If I ask you if I can paint a mural on the side of your house, and you say "sure," what right do the police have to unilaterally decide to "clean up the graffiti" and paint over it?

When it was painted illegally? Don't know the specifics of that story but here is one that happened that I heard of.

Jake would defend a cop walking up and shooting you in the face by saying you deserved it for getting in the way.

And he might accuse you of being likely to respond to a cop who put down a rabid dog ripping a small child limb-from-limb by criticizing the cop for animal abuse. But in reality, I suspect that both of you aren't quite at such extremes -- just as all cops are not at one or the other extreme.
