Austin is liberal. If you look at those maps that show who won each county in the USA, Travis County is that single, solitary blue spot in the middle of the sea of red that is Texas.

But just because it's predominantly liberal doesn't mean that it's universally so, just as you can find some real crackers in New York and Boston.

By crackers you mean people who are not liberal?

He says "real crackers" so I'm pretty sure he means these.

By "crackers," I refer to the etymology of "cracking the whip."

He means bigots and he's right. They're everywhere.

Then take it to the appropriate forum. Do we even have a kinky sex forum in BigSoccer?
    :D

I realize that. But my question -sort of rhetorical- was to point out that because of the way the sentence was phrased, the word "crackers" appears to be used almost as an antonym of the word "liberals". And yet surely we know it ain't so.

True, but we do have a distinctly different flavor to our racism.

Anytime I see chowdah I think of the Simpsons episode where the obnoxious guy who dies keeps saying chowdah and the snooty French waiter keeps saying Chowdearr. Carry on.
